| For some time now I have noticed new Hong Kong chinese people to Canada have covered their faces and body to protect them from the sun and always wondered why . So finally I asked a new canadian why this is and I had to laugh .
She said that tanned skin shows that you are a lower class such as a farm worker or such and whiter skin shows you are upper class and possibly work in an office and have a good education and make serious money
Now the difference over here is that if your tanned you probably make decent money and can afford to travel and if your pale you probably can't afford to go anywhere because your barely scraping by
just thought it was pretty funny the difference between the 2 cultures , tanned skin for me baby !! |

Yeah Asian cultures can be pretty ass backwards. I have relatives who prefer the pale ghosty look and they wear that stupid welder mask thing while driving. And have you seen the some of the older gals trying to paddle with those things on? Looks ridiculous!

it also helps keep the heat off your body if you're from a really hot climat. i lived in thailand for a while, and while i soaked up the sun and sweated my ass off for the first few months wearing shorts, t-shirts and sandles, i eventuall started wearing pants and light jackets to keep the sun off of my skin. shrug different mind-sets. if i went back again, i'd probably be wearing shorts and t-shirts again. |

I thought I was in the dragon boat forum, but evidently I have stumbled into the social anthropology discussion forum.
Most strings end up getting stupid and boring from too many posts ..... this one hit it from the start. Congratulations.

There are indeed many differences, but one would be ignorant to view the opinions of a few voices to represent the overall.
