Controversial: A**holes diminish the sportMarch 7 2007 at 2:56 AM | Anonymous |
| Anyone notice how self-centred forum dwellers are trying to dominate media coverage of Dragon Boating? Of course nobody takes the sport seriously because in the public's mind dragon boating is a bitter mudslinging event, and not a legitimate athletic competition. |

This is of course in response to the pathetic fools that would take away from the cancer survivor teams. They participate in regattas to celebrate their triumphs over personal struggles and the memories of those that are not as fortunate. In return, some random arse on the forum sounds off on how they are taking away camera time from him? Shameful. |

I predict this sport is going to crash and burn in 4 years....
The IOC is right in not granting this sport olympic status we can't have a united front and the sport or a full regatta or highlights are never shown on the news or local sports shows ....

Aside from the fact that dragon boat racing has been taking place for thousands of years in some countries and hundreds of years in others, the sport has been growing in Canada since 1986 without so much as a sniff of interest from the IOC. So why would it crash in 4 years?
Ebb and flow in popularity, sure. But crash? I doubt it. It's too accessible, and now it's entrenched.

The sport is never going to be taken seriously by the media, the public or the competitive amature sports establishment. There's too much political infighting, too much tolerance/acceptance of cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct, too little consistency in judging, and an overwhelming perception that this is a community entertainment activity.
Paddlers who take DB seriously will continue to be universally perceived as pathetic idiots. |

Bang on! Athletes who train hard will ALWAYS be regarded as idiots by the likes of the candy-ass who started this thread. Why? Because training is hard. Devoting your time to it is hard. Making a sacrifice is hard.
So much easier to be some whiny, wimpy, smug, liberal, artsy, sanctimonious pussy who begrudges all those who take the sport seriously. Those who express an opinion against the LEAST capable teams ruling the sport, are treated like social pariahs.
This is a sport FULL of zeros. So easy to be some office nobody, who turns out once or twice a week starting in May, and gets to dictate how **** works on a boat, or a regatta, never EVER having been a competitor on a team sport, never EVER had to train under a coach, and not understanding that while you may be the boss at work, in the boat, you're a ****ing NObody. Only in dragon boat.

"not understanding that while you may be the boss at work, in the boat, you're a ****ing NObody"
I don't think truer words have been spoken on this forum. |

Anon@11:10 - are you trying to use the word 'sanctimonious' in every post you make to this forum? |

Haven't you got a girlfriend, or something else to keep you busy? You actually count the number of adjectives I use, and match them up to see which are being overused?
I'm flattered. Hey, I guess that means I have a fan.

There are some A-holes in the sport, and many come here to vent about whatever is pissng them off today.
I have been involved for many years in Dragon Boating and I find that most of the complaining comes not from from the novice / rec/ ****ty paddlers that are just having fun and understand that they suck, nor from the accomplished high end paddlers who know they don't suck and understand what its like to be a ****ty / rec paddler. Most of the bitching comes from the moderate to "good" paddler who thinks they are better and smarter than they really are, and anytime there is a bump in their road to perfection, its somebody else's fault.
We aren't getting paid to paddle. It's not your job, so if you really hate it so much, find something else to do with your spare time.
Otherwise "Shut up and Paddle!". |

Congrats Winnipeg Guy! You've demonstrated beyond the shadow of any doubt whatsoever, how the PC mindset works: If anyone dares to disagree with you (plural) they are shouted down, and called names, as the title of this thread would attest to.
You've also demonstrated quite effectively that you have no clear understanding of the issues involved.
I refer you to the "Cancer Survivors Diminish the Sport" thread. See March 9, 11:26 am.
There it is in terms even you can understand.
Keep on representin' your town! Atta boy. |

This is such a easy problem to solve ........BCS teams should just host there own regatta's and then they won't have to put up with the people who take the sport more seriously .There are more than enough BCS teams out there to pull it off and they even had their own worlds last yr ............good for you guys
On the other hand what really sucked was the amount of media they were given for the club crews and then only 3 teams showed .....that was was such a slap in the face .Next time I would not even allow BSC teams into the world clubs if thats how they are going to treat that event |

I really don't get this thread???
DB is thriving. It's an awesome sport enjoyed by thousands of people. DB festivals are great for the community and most festivals raise money for charity. The sport will continue to grow over the next 4 years not shrink.
I don't get why anyone would be negative about such a beautiful sport.
