A lot of dragon boaters cross-train in small boats. This is a relevant post.

The guy gave his name (unlike you) and a link to his e-mail address. He has a boat to sell. What's your problem? Prospective buyers can take a look at the distributor's website for further details. I don't see any spam here. Or do you still not get it that OC paddling is becoming more and more important to people who want to become better Dragon Boat paddlers.

DB related or not, it's still SPAM and y'all are too harsh on the guy who called it out for what it is.

SPAM

Here is one definition of SPAM:

To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities.

I think the message about an OC-1 for sale is entirely appropriate and relevant to this group, given the number of threads that have discussed outrigger paddling as an important complement to dragon boat.

If you want to complain about SPAM, check out some of the other threads and see if you can find anything unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate there!

Just remember the club crews ...........the west coast crosstrains in oc1's .....it shows who is actually pulling their own weight in the boat not just wishing or thinking they are .

OC-1 Training for Dragon Boat

Remember the NTTs... The majority of the individuals in the crews that won the entries for Sydney also cross-train in outrigger boats, even if they are primarily or originally flatwater paddlers. This is definitely true for Derek's premiere men's crew and Jim's senior men's crew (which includes some of those excellent west coast paddlers).

I would think that if the west coast had plane trips paid for by sponsers than you would see alot of the top outrigger paddlers jump on a crew heading for the NTT's the same as we do back east and I very much think there may be a changing of the guard if they were to show up.

There are alot of awesome fast outrigger paddlers out west that have not made the jump because of this ,maybe things may change in the future if the bait is there

"There are alot of awesome fast outrigger paddlers out west that have not made the jump because of this"

So dragon boat racing starts in Canada in Vancouver, but hasn't caught on there among the outrigger set there because they don't get free flights? Oh yeah, that makes sense. Personally I just got out of the Toronto-Paddler-Free-Airline-Ticket line a couple minutes ago. Yep, they just hand 'em out over here like their Wendy's 2-for-1 coupons. If it weren't for that, I would have quit years ago!

What a crock of sh!t.

$2,200 for a two-year old busted-ass Albatross that only sold for $2,500 new?

What was that company thinking, naming a boat the albatross?

In the western world that symbolism has had negative connotations for a while now...

dumbass, SHOOTING the albatross brings evil.

Seeing one is a good sign, always has been for mariners, and anyone that knows his/her Conan the Barbarian history knows that a black albatross is even more luck (or worse if you shoot it).

An annoying burden: “That old car is an albatross around my neck.” Literally, an albatross is a large sea bird. The phrase alludes to Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” in which a sailor who shoots a friendly albatross is forced to wear its carcass around his neck as punishment.

Boat for sale?

March 21 2007, 8:07 PM

Ok first and foremost the Albatross is not a crappy boat. It is a solid durable built boat that is a great training boat for entry level paddlers. The boat weighs more than racing OC-1's because more material (carbon/glass/kevlar) went into these boats to make them more durable. Someone lost one of these off the roof of their car last year on the highway only to get the boat seriously scratched up. Good luck doing that with a Hurricane or any other lightweight carbon fiber racing OC-1.

Bottom line every boat has it's purpose and this boat is a solid beginners boat that will easily outlast all other OC-1s I have ever seen built when it comes to durability. I used to own one of these boats also and moved up to a well known full carbon OC-1 like most people who want to race will do.

I once had an albatross oc-1 as well. It was a fantastic boat. It was just too heavy to race competitively now that a variety of lighter boats are finally available locally. So I sold mine last year and picked up a Hurricane (after waiting 6mos). If you're a serious dragonboater and want to take your padding up to the next level, then you'll need your own boat to get more time on the water! Good luck finding a better deal. Sure, a new hurricane will be lighter, but will cost nearly $4000 and will take 5+ months to arrive! With this boat you could be on the water by the weekend getting a head start on the competition - that is if you're serious about your sport...

of course this canoe is not bad, my club owns three of them but there are always trouble with steering cables, the canoes takes water and also the seats getting loose from the hull.
but overall not a bad canoe
