Her life jacket was probably on too tight.

I don't think THIS is the topic thread to take shots at anyone. Let's give some respect here.

That's rough.

It's weird but this stuff always happens occasionally. We've all been hearing it in the news in all sorts of sports. Kids dying after gym or a marathon... Or even after hockey shift.... It's happened even in the NHL with that dude from detriot Jrii fischer? (sp)

Hopefully organizers won't get too anal with how safe we need to be on the water cause the article indicates she was tended to fairly quickly (I hope). And I think every regatta usually has an onsite defib.

In anycase my condolences and rip... that is pretty upsetting.

We had a rec paddler at our festival in Sudbury who had a heart attack while in a race. The organizers had a doctor on site at the festival who saved the guy at the finish line. It was a close call.

I guess that it's one of those things that could happen in this sport. Our condolences to the paddlers family.

Do FMG races have St John's on site? This isn't something that I usually look for, however, I do remember seeing them at Pickering and GWN. I know (from commercials) that many hockey arenas have the portable defibrillators on site.

I was at Guelph (paddler) and there was CPR instructers and first aid responders on site as well as volunteer fire fighters. We got an email from the organizers after the festival to let the teams know that the lady in Guelph passed away from a Brain aneurism.

It is very sad news about what happened, but being at the festival the situation was handled very professionally and our respects go out to the family and team members. It was sad what happened.

Just an uncontrollable situation, totally unrelated to paddling and to the organizers. Thoughts go out to the family and friends.
