I don't recall actually ever seeing them test anyone but if someone really stood out amongst the crowd I guess they could |

They tried to test the juniors in Poland. Not sure why they picked on the juniors. |

They wanted a blood sample and Hugh Fisher, the IDBF Medical Chair at the time, said no. |

Isn't the new IDBF Medical Chair Bob MacNamara, who is also the coach of some of the USA teams competing at the Worlds? That seems like a conflict of interest if there ever was one. Not that the USA team is on 'roids or anything -- it just seems that the IDBF medical chair should not be the coach of a team that is competing at the Worlds. |

As long as he isn't involved with the selection of athletes for testing or in the actual testing or reporting there is no conflict that I can see. In fact, I would hazard that being in a "potential" conflict position will almost guarantee that one of his marquee athletes gets tested by the Aussie's. They will do this simply to make a point that there is no conflict. |

In Rome 2002, they tested two of our ladies. They had to pee in a cup with someone watching.
Yikes! |

That had nothing to do with drug testing, just a couple of cheeky Eye-talians looking for a quick thrill. |

So when did they start letting you test drugs at the worlds. Is it random or can you select what kind you like. |

| Conflict of interest or problem for the US team? | July 9 2007, 10:04 PM |

I agree with the poster who thinks that this is likely to draw more attention to the US team not shield them. You can bet the Aussies will test paddlers from all the USA boats. It would be pretty embarassing for him if one of his paddlers tested positive but I doubt any team does or can afford pre-Worlds testing. The coaches have to trust their paddlers or weed out the ones who look like they jack it. We all know there are some jackers you can pick right out of a crowd, the officials look for them too despite what they tell you about "random" testing. Once somebody loses a medal for a positive test teams will be forced to test at home.
