That's right, only one Piranha will be there. Try and catch him!

LOL...that team name is probably the most butchered in the sport. I heard the Waterloo trophy has a little bronze tab that has it misspelt as well. Hilarious. So is the guy/gal going to race everyone else in a C-1 or a K-1?

that's a pretty good turnout and some pretty good teams. I'm curious - how good is the venue at woodstock? Most importantly, how is the course? fair? deep? sheltered from wind?

Some Toronto teams opted for Woodstock when the Marilyn Bell Aug. 11th Race was cancelled. Too bad we have to go to Woodstock while the Toronto course sits empty.

always lots of fun.
Too bad you have to come to Woodstock????
July 26 2007, 11:01 PM
We are glad to have you come on down. Last year I did not hear one negative comment on this forum (or anywhere else) about the festival. In fact most people were posting favourable comments. The course is excellent and the lanes are fair. We set it ourselves and work hard to ensure no lane bias. There is a ton of room for team tents on a nice grassed area and a splash pad to cool off on. This will be our 10th year in the same location on the same weekend. In the last 3 years 2 Toronto events have been cancelled on this weekend. So we are more than glad to have some great teams from Toronto come to Woodstock.

I agree. This will be my second time coming back and as an out-of-towner, I'm looking forward to coming back to Woodstock. I hope you have retained the services of last year's race commentator, he was great!

Early predictions? Do you really think there will only be a single Piranha in the race? I'd have to guess your overlooked them since I'd pick them to win.

Mojos - some former jetstart folks will give their former team a run for the money
Saints - could push their way up into the a final
Blades - will be in tough to make the top eight
Wildcard: CN Aquatrain - did well in montreal - could surprise a few people - yes that's right it CN Aquatrain could surprise a few people

My whole point to Mr. "When Pigs Fly" is to remind him of how ridiculous these predictions are. And how useless it is to get your panties tied in a knot over silly prognostications.

Actually Mr. New College, I was wrong about 2006. But 2001,2002,2003,2004,2005? Those were good times.

August 8 2007, 1:53 PM
1. Big Fish (big fish eats the little fish)
2. Piranhas (close but no feeding frenzy for you)
3. Fairport Jr A (looked good at race-offs, but can't swim with the fishies yet)
4. Mojos (Will hold off the pack of "tier III" teams)
5. The Saints (held their own at the island + strong Pickering = 5th)
6. Jetstart (will get revenge on Chaos for Milton, but if there is no beer...)
7. Team Chaos (lose by a nostril to Jetstart)
8. Wahoos (Will be close, but can't beat 4-7 yet)
9. The Pseudo Blades (if not full team, 9th, if added ringers, 4th)
10. Golden Plate Warriors or CN Aquatrain (close battle for best of the rest)

August 8 2007, 2:44 PM
Confucious... I'd expect to see lots of irregular lineups. It's peak vacation season. But I think we use the term "ringer" a little too freely. If a team that's legitimately short can get a good paddler to help them out, I say good for them. To me a true ringer is an import who takes the seat of an available regular, which is not cool.
Confucious
ringers
August 8 2007, 3:02 PM
by that I meant "elite" paddlers in general. As they are calling themselves the Pseudo Blades, I'm interpreting that to mean they didn't get a full roster and had to fill from other teams (some of the teams that usually help them out are at Woodstock already). It was by no means to imply that they sit their regulars for "better" paddlers. So you could say that I was a little loose with the use of the word, but I was trying to keep it short.

If the Blades were "stacked" I think they'd be racing under their regular name. They're more likely to be weaker. Racing under a pseudo name helps them hold their True Ranking position.
