Rankings Update

Power Demon

Montreal, Ottawa, and Lachine have been added.

I haven't had a chance to look over things (and I can see a few problems like properly identifying 3R teams). I'll review after the weekend.

The old 3R team no longer exists. The crews this year are part of their new dragonboat program.

That's not the problem. It's identifying them when they change names every festival.

Hi PD, I understand the methodology used to get the overall time for each team but I'm confused with what the time per festival is.

http://www.dragonboatcanada.org/rankings/2007_byFestival.htm

I can see that each timer per festival is not the actual average of a team's race times so I assume it is the adjusted average to make the time comparable to other regattas.

My problem is that shouldn't the overall number under the heading "Time" be an average of each adjusted festival result? For example the Imperial dragons have a 204.2 from Pickering, and a 204.3 from Ottawa. I expected their overall "Time" to be the average of these two numbers but it's listed as 203.9.

How the heck did WRCC not fall by more after their blow up in Ottawa? Big Fish got hammered for just missing A final.

This is definetly a mistake. I'll take a look as soon as I'm back next week. I did a ton of work in a short amount of time so you'll have to forgive me for any mistakes. Under each festival - the average time should be posted. For the total ranking, the average for each race should be posted.

"How the heck did WRCC not fall by more after their blow up in Ottawa? Big Fish got hammered for just missing A final."

The rankings can only merge two differently named teams if there is reason to believe that a "sufficiently similar crew" paddled in both races. Since I had no reason to believe that WRCC and WRCC Master's A were the same team -particularly with a 6 second difference in performance, they are listed as different crews. If you believe that the WRCC crews were the same simply average their times to determine what you think the ranking might be.

Not sure what Big Fish missing the A final has to do with their ranking time, perhaps you are referring to drag from being the fastest boats in a slower heat? However, big fish has logged 10 races so one race would only carry a 1/10th weight.

Good call on the WRCC thing. Master's A was a very different boat in Ottawa than the team at Pickering. The team at GWN will be the same as Pickering.
