Frenchmans Bay CupJuly 30 2008 at 11:37 AM | Muff |
| The Pickering Dragon Baot Club is presenting a new race this year on Aug 23, 2008 from 9am to 2pm
This race is being called the Frenchmans Bay Cup, and we are racing to determine who is the "King" and "Queen" of the Bay. The format of this regatta is that for each of the four races (200, 500, 1000, 2000), the competitors are put together into random boats and then they race. Each competitor in that boat then receives that boat's time for that race, the male and female with the lowest combined time over the four races will be crowned the "King" and "Queen" of the Bay
The cost for the race is $32. Boats, steerspeople and equipment are all provided
For more information or to register please go to: www.pdbc.ca/baycup/ |

You've gotta love pdbc. This year they can't compete with any real teams so they decide to have their own ridiculous competition on the bay !! Keep it up Scotty, Muff and the rest of you clowns. |

Interesting Idea. You're going to have to plan this carefully to avoid a tie since no two people of the same sex can be in all 4 races together. |

This is a terrible idea. You basically have no control over your destiny. Even if you're 7-time olympic champion of the world, master of the universe, and hold 10 world records, you can be in last place.
I much rather go to the casino and spend my 32 bucks there. |

I think this is a novel idea .... good work Muff & Scotty.....
It'll be a fun way for people who want to race more, and get exposure to the pdbc to try. So what if their is a tie, it's just for fun.
As someone said above - if you don't want to participate, don't come, your negative comments don't add value. |

Thanks Holmsie, You're a gentleman
Just for everyone's information, the boat assignments have been planned out so that no 2 people race in the same boat for all four of the races |

You guys need to do something, and quick. With the donkey show you guys are running out there you are lucky West Rouge and Fairport let you stay in bussines. You can't coach, you can't recruit, your teams are bad and only getting worse. You bring on Danny and only create your own world of hurt. I dont't think it gets much worse. I wish you athe best of luck and some advice. You should stick to middle age wannabe athletes that don't know anything and want to be athletes. Recruit from the nursing homes, and keep your + 70 team alive. Maybe they will write you guys in the will |

I think this is a fun idea - and should be treated as such. However, I would have to argue that the King and Queen who win will be ones who end up in the fastest boat for the 2000, since you can pick up the biggest difference in times. It's pretty easy to beat a crew by 10 seconds in a 2000m race, but pretty damn hard in a 200m race.
Although not perfect, the race distance should at least be multiplied to get to a 2000m distance, so the 1000m gets multiplied by 2, 500 by 4, and 200 x 10 (the last being the most screwed up since a good crew can open up a big difference from knowing how to do a good start). Maybe fudge this one to 200m x 6-8?
Just a recommendation.

Even though thats a really good idea for the format. The 2k goes last which will still have one male and one female in each boat with a even chance of winning that way the last race is the most important and most fun. |

This idea seems like lots of fun. A great way to get to know other paddlers in the DB community.
However I'm a bit concerned that more experienced paddlers may suffer injuries if they are in a boat of rookies and are having to pull dead water for an entire 2k.
I also think your method for figuring out the King and Queen needs to be a bit more thought out. I guarantee you aren't going to be able to fairly narrow it down with your current format.
But nice work PD for coming up with a playful day of Dragon Boat. |

I'm sorry to say that due to a lack of registrations, the competition was cancelled. We still think that it is an interesting idea and will be trying to organize a similar competition next year, with a more notice and a longer time to advertise so that people can fit it into their schedules
I would like to thank everyone that registered for the competition and as well to those that I have tlked to who express interest in the concept | |
