The two Open Czech teams (Moravian and Nymburk) have long been in the elite, they turned in times in Berlin as part of the European Club Crews that ran at the same time as the IDBF worlds that would have placed them in the finals for the IDBF only a few seconds off the winning times. It is also possible that the awarding of the IDBF races to Prague for 2009 freed up some money for their top dogs to go to Penang.
Much more interesting to those who know the history of the sport is the reappearance of Indonesia as a power. They knocked off the Phillipines in the ADBF champs, likely the same Phillipine team that came in second in Sydney. Indonesian teams had legendary battles with China in the 80s and 90s and took 2 silvers and one bronze in 1995 and two golds in 1997 (China did not show). With civil war, strife they have not raced in the IDBF events of late. If they are back watch out.

Czechs are amazing in the open, they should throw some women in there and race in mixed too. it is too bad that european nations don't think women should really be very valued in sports and don't race in mixed. There is less competition and canada always kills it.

Those guys paddled there butts off with about 9 guys running fevers, Joel included on Sunday and really should not have raced!
You obviously did not race for a Canadian team to be posting this crap and your welcome anytime to come down and speak to RTF in person I am sure they would love to listen to your helpful insights!
PS Take a look at the races and you will see they gave everyone a run for their money in each 500 race they did!

Different boats?
August 7 2008, 3:55 PM
I think they might have been using different boats as well...not 100%, but the results posted on the DBC website had some heats listed as "short boats" and whatnot.
Anyone in Penang shed some light on these races?

The ADBC entries are their national teams, equivalent to the Sydney entries and the times are consistent with that.

We have Canadian Clubs, which have teams buried under that notion.

RIP the fondue are class acts all the way. Way to be an idiot by calling their name out.
The open division for asian dragonboat champs were not allowed to stand but they were national teams. This fully explains why they where so fast.
Congrats to the great performances by all the canadian teams.

Can't sleep - still jet lagged from the return trip from Penang - great festival, great races.
Reflections on the event -
Mayfair Predators are a class act - they were clearly the best mixed team there, and although it has been pointed out that a lot of countries don't concentrate on mixed teams, nonetheless in 2008 Mayfair are the world champions, and they wear the mantle well - they get the job done with quiet efficiency and comport themselves with a good mixture of pride and humility. (No, I have never paddled for Mayfair, and have fiercely competed against them, but I give credit where credit is due).
The Asian teams in the ADBC (Asian Dragonboat Champioship) races were allowed to stand up, and several of them did (although from the viewing areas on the surrounding hills, and the tendency for Asians to be vertically challenged, it may not have been apparent to some observers). I was told this was the last year that standing would be allowed in the ADBC races, and next year they will adopt IDBF rules, but that is hearsay.
The Russian senior men's team (I think they used the same personel for both the premier and senior events) was impressive. They beat the G & G senior mens by close margins in all three distances, and I was surprised they didn't swamp in the 2000 given their massive size. Most impressive was their absolute gorgeous drummer, who we convinced to sit on my little buddy's shoulder for a photo op.
Now to try and get some sleep.

I figure anyone who paddled on 4 teams (mixed and open or womens in 2 age groups ) and paddled in all the heats and finals would do 20 races and potentially win 12 medals. 200 , 500 and 2000 for each team. A woman who also paddled open could do more.

People on this forum are dumber than ****. We are talking about the World Club Crews. If you stupid west coasters (False Creek) wanted to be involved in this forum you should have been courageous enough to show up to Penang as opposed to giving up your entry. At that point you would have been able to compete with the teams that went there. NTT's are one thing.... then there are different rosters that show up to the Worlds. The air must be real dense out in Vancouver.

Typical Toronto mentality ,you get you butt handed to you and then you act like it didn't happen ! Losers . It made me laugh to see some of you bash FCRCC about Australia and then when it came time to prove how patheltic FCRCC really was , you friggen lost huge .
You even stacked the team w/ east coasters and still managed to lose .Now you have the balls to say it wasn't the real Mayfair ,Heelllllooooooo ,Mayfair LOST to FCRCC in the 500 at the Nationals as the true mayfair ( see other post with pictures ) and the only reason Mayfair won was because the FCRCC steersman made a unfortunate mistake and misread the lane markers at the start in the semi and now you try to say Mayfair won .GIVE US A FREAKIN BREAK ! You lost and got a gold medal that truely means **** ,you never ever beat FCRCC head to head EVER !!!! but you do win the gold for the best keyboard racers !
I think FCRCC is going to really enjoy Prague at that time of year ! Go FCRCC ,you guys rock !

Hey man/or girl calm down. Not all of us in the east are this hateful. Yes I agree there are some real idiots in this city. But there are still alot of bright people, her who recognize the fact that FRCC is superior to mayfair. I don't know by what margin (big or small it doesn't matter), but they are still the team to beat overall in this country. I think if they had gone to Penang they probably would have swept the events. And Toronto people don't miscontrue this as being a Mayfair hater because it is not the case. Mayfair is awesome but you have to recognize FRCC is on another, level hands down.

Re: Full CCWC results available

Reality:
Team west beat team east at the NTT's as syndicate teams (not club teams), that was the point of the race off.
FC beat Mayfair in the 500m at nationals. Mayfair beat FC in the 2000m. Mayfair won the 200m race and I'm sure no one was more disappointed in FC's miscalc than Mayfair, they don't strike me as a crew that avoids competition. Based on heat/semi times, it would have been close.
Congratulations were extended on both days.
That's it as I see it.

don't speak for all of us, "Toronto Paddler"
August 25 2008, 8:53 AM
All FCRCC truly proved is that they were the superior 500m team.
The lost the 2000m race handily, and their steering error in the 200m race was entirely their own. No one knows what would have happened in a 200m final between them and Mayfair, but both crews were looking similarly fast in the earlier heats, and in FCRCC's re-run semi-final. This does not prove to ME, absolutely "hands down" that FCRCC was superior or on another level.

You are the typical forum sh1t disturbing trash that goes around thinking the whole world is conspiring against you with your "you people are all like this" or "you are typical just like all those people.." type of blanket statements.
Way to go for adding a lot of negativity and divisiveness into the pot for no reason whatsoever. Dragonboat is so full of useless, whiners like you who take dragonboating way too seriously to the point where you start hating the people without whom you would have no one to race. We all need each other for this to continue to be a widely contested sport so why can't you conduct yourself with a little more grace. If one poster makes a stupid comment, even two, three or four..it doesn't make 2.5 million people culpable.
If all this sport does is fill you with anger, hatred, and animosity - what the hell are you doing this for? Walk away from the sport and better yet walk away from the forum because we don't need your hatred.

If my eyes aren't deceiving me, the FCRCC team that raced at the Trials had some paddlers from other parts of the country in the boat (not just FCRCC) Perfectly within rules and a good thing if you want to represent the country next year.

Based on the last worlds held in Europe, Berlin 2005, the team to beat is Russia not the USA. Russia swept all of the Premier men and mixed events from what I recall.
Finally, raising money won't end the bickering, it will just shift the focus.

The U.S. is not that different. Many of the paddlers on the U.S. team wouldn't have gone to Sydney if it hadn't been a free trip. I'd imagine the same holds for paddlers in all countries.
