Didn't we have a similar topic last year and the roster included:
William Shatner, Bobby Flay, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Michael Schumacher? |

This guy's got to be from Dumbass, Ontario. I can't imagine anyone from BC being this unsophisticated. Although, I met a Manitoban in the Caribbean last year. That was close. |

The level of sophistication for people from BC is limited to the street price of marijuana and discussions of which areas to avoid being mugged (most of them). |

Seriously, the best male paddler in Quebec is OBVIOUSLY Tom Hall. OLYMPIC medalist. He is by far the best.
Top female, who cares. |

Seriously the best teams have the best men. You never see teams win on the merit of their females. |

Don't think so.
No question the females are elite in mayfair.
If I had to loose 5 paddler for sligthly weaker paddlers and had my choice of who the five were I would give up 5 females. The guys are just that much more important.

Again, the poster hoping his/her name is mentioned. How sad. |

The difference is there are a lot more elite guys out there than women. Therefore I'd keep the ladies and rebuild the men if needed. The difference between a very good male paddler and a elite male paddler isn't as big as a very good female paddler and a elite female paddler.

That's ridiculous!
The biggest difference maker possible in a boat are the men. There is no debate about that.

| Results are interesting | November 21 2008, 3:46 PM |
Ask your coach to show you the results of fitness and paddle testing scores. You will find some interesting groupings.
But that doesn't really matter anyhow since in a coed sport you have to have both men and women. So you need the best guys you can get AND the best women you can get. The best teams have a good mix of both. It only takes one or two weak positions in EITHER gender to deep six your crew. |

Really? Explain this:
http://www.verdundbc.com/menbenchmarks.html
http://www.verdundbc.com/womenbenchmarks.html
A base level man should be able to do 5 chinups to a womens 1. A 500% increase.
A national team man should be able to do 40 chinups to a womens 25. A 160% increase.
Women's ability converges towards mens as fitness increases. Therefore, since all teams must have 8 women, if you have fitter women you can make big relative gains.

Sorry, meant:
A base level man should be able to do 5 chinups to a womens 1. A 400% increase.
A national team man should be able to do 40 chinups to a womens 25. A 60% increase.
