Are you kidding me ? That plus airfare and hotel ? This makes the D/B Conference out west looks like a way better deal .Crap ,you could join one to the top teams for a whole yr for that price and get coaching all yr round . |

The cost doesn't seem too bad to me. Join some pedestrian local crew for a season? I'd rather have a vacation somewhere warm, connect with some of the top coaches, learn to paddle better, especially learn to paddle outrigger efficiently (since it's one of the testing methods of choice) and meet paddlers from all over. And at least no one's going to be trying to sell me a boat. |

I thought GWN was expensive at 425 |

GWN is good but I've been there a few years and it's just the same old. Nothing wrong with what they're doing there-although melbourne is pretty boring. Personally looking for a diferent perspective (plus I've never been on the other coast.) All of these camps will be good, I guess it just depends on your budget and what you're hoping to get out of it. |

Holly Cow!
I never thought the day would come....
Someone has out priced GWN!!!
What the F?
For that price (when you include air fare and hotel) I'll go to Club Med.
I always thought some coaches were really pushing the limits with their prices. This is nuts!

Ken Wong - World Champion coach??? When??? Where???
ties to Hong Kong - because he's Chinese? or does he have family there?
He's able to say this because he's on the board and has been helpful in raising $$.
But he's NEVER coached a world Champion team for US. |

yeah great location.
how does anyone justify over $12,000 per crew?
Is Vince Lombardi going to be there?
Like seriously. Pay more for a new camp?
This is disrespectful towards paddlers. It's a bunch of coaches getting together and trying to make stupid amounts of money off the backs of dragon boaters.

Ok so i just checked it out.
Yes the price is kinda nuts compared to what else is out there. But I can live with it.
However, there is one thing that really caught me and cleary shows that this is a big time money grab. So you pay $600 to go to camp but if you want to have a private coaching session it's an extra $75, this is Bull*$%t.
I've been to two camps GWN and Peter's. At both camps I had all the individual coaching I could handle, and I didn't have to pay extar for it. At the GWN camp I had Scott Murray and he could not have been more approachable. He took the time after every morning practice to go out with a mall group of us and work with us untill we understood the concept (all other coaches at camp seemed to be doing the same).
It bugs me that people could come up with a concept for a camp and then think of ways to make extra money after the initial camp fee. If i pay for a camp i expect great quality individual coaching to be included. Once last thing, Scott filmed us and reviewed it with us twice during the week, then GWN send me the DVD.
Byer beware this camp looks like an airline, one price for the ticket and tons of add ons.
peace! |

Just read the coaching bio's. Besides almost throwing up a couple of times I wonder if Jeff Campbell knows these guys are really a bunch of yahoos or is he so tuned out of the Canadian scene to know better. |

I've been coached by Blake and a bit by Fred (very bit). I would defenitely recomend trying to spend a week with Blake. Fred, not so much.
Good luck to them! |

funny that everyone on the east coast knows their rip off schemes so they have moved out west!
too bad they will no doubt lose out to
Watersedge (Olympic athletes well known for their coaching abilities as well as other coaches with world experience and high ranks in outrigger)
Pogue Sports (lesser known in dragonboat but does have the support of outrigger guys who have raced well in Hawaii. Maybe he makes up for it by being more cost efficient. Less then half of what the scammers from T.O want and almost half of WE)
Well, at least you have more options now if you live out west

$120 a day plus extras. I guess that's $30 per paddle and $30 for each classroom session. |

The watersedge camp is also a steep $750, but you seem to get a lot of OC with it.
So if we look at all the camps out there:
San Diego: $600
Waters Edge: $750
GWN: $425
What about other clubs/companies:
Pogue?
22dragons?
Pickering?
Belleville?
Dragon Boat East?
Pete Buday?
Anyone else? |

The market will decide. If people believe that the fees are worth it, they will attend. Considering the uncertain economic times we are now in, my bet is that these camps go nowhere at these prices. |

22Dragons is the best value at $295 taxes included.
I know someone who went to their Atlanta camp and love it. Aside from great Dragon Boat practices I remember them saying they had OC's and flatwater boats, and I'm pretty sure at no extra cost.
Typically when the Matt's get involved they give you quality and are respectful about pricing.

Those coaches have all been around for along time. They have the resumes to back it up. As far as coaching depth and professionalism, that camp has a lot to offer. I am sure it will do fine and the people that attend will get their moneys worth. |

too funny
San Diego $675 USD so that's almost $850 to $900 Canadian dollars?
Versus $295 Canadian (Taxes in) from 22dragons?
Honestly, anyone who has anything to do with these San Diego jokers (in the US or Canada) should really be wondering for how long they have been getting ripped off without knowing it
Good for you 22dragons for letting people see the true costs of running something like this! |

| Re: Best coaches from Canada ?and look at the price .. | November 15 2008, 10:35 AM |
Nov 14, 10:52 has is right.
22Dragons shows what the real cost is. They can do it for $295 taxes is, or about $6000 per crew. The SD camp is $850 (canadian) $17,000 per crew, a difference of $11,000 per crew!
Why is SD charging more?
I imagine they are using boats from SD so boat transport is actually less but they surely need to rent the equipment.
They need to fly the coaches from Toronto to SD, while 22Dragons needs to fly coaches from Montreal to Florida. This might represent a small difference in price, not $11,000.
There really isn't much more in terms of expenses once the equipmnet and coaches are there, maybe some insurance (cheap), a BBQ for the participants (cheap), some shirts (cheap), really not much else but profit.
So why does it cost 3x as much for the SD camp? Is it all profit?
Why does the SD camp want so much profit (stupid question)
Why does 22D do it for so cheap?

"Why does 22D do it for so cheap?"
They do it for the love of coaching. And because they get to spend a week in Florida.
Sometimes life is pretty simple...
