dragon boat insurance

I've posted a few times while my organization, TEAMSurvivor Madison, has worked towards its goal of obtaining our own dragon boat. We have one now - built by a Madison, WI boat builder. Question: does anyone know of a reputable company that insures dragon boats. We've done some searching and have an insurance company researching for us also. Insurance for a dragon boat is not a well known commodity. We store the boat during the winter months and it stays in a locked yard during the summer. To learn about our organization and see the boat and boat building progress go to www.teamsurvivormadison.org

Any helpful info re: insurance is greatly appreciated.

Contact an area canoe club regarding issurance and who insures them. You will need to insure the assets (boats) and you may consider liability insurance for your club to protect yourselves for day to day activities. Not cheap!

First response was bang on, contact some organizations and talk with them.

Here is listing of some of the larger dragon boat specific groups that may be able to help you:

Great White North (GTA): www.gwndragonboat.com
22 Dragons (MTL): www.22dragons.com
Water's Edge (Van): www.watersedgesportperformance.com
GO Rowing and Paddling (Vic & BC): www.gorowandpaddle.org

These are all groups that I know OWN their own boats and equipment. GO may have some interesting information for you as I know in the past year or two they have had a boat or two stolen from their Fort Langley facility.

Try Dragon Boat Canada.

Canoeing programs in Canada are more complicated in that you need to be a full member of Canoe Kayak Canada. Becoming CKC club takes a while.
