An interesting photo is included in the article. Too bad there weren't more.

Clearly the boats and paddles are different than what we are used to in dragon boat racing, but some essential elements remain the same.

Wild. Notice that they don't have handles on top of their paddles.

LOL, that is not dragonboat racing, even in the article they call it boat racing, and some FOOTBALL club named Dragon lost a tournament to some other team.

Sorry had to point it out.

Dragons or no?

I may have been caught out by searching for "dragon boat racing" and got a link to a page that referenced both "dragons" and "boat racing" seperately, true.

But looking at the picture you can see that they are paddling, facing forward, side-by-side and in a seated position. That looks like dragon boat racing to me, or at least the closest local variant. Certainly analagous, to use a fancy word. Like Swan boat or Snake boat racing, they may not be dragon boats precisely, but it's very similar.

What defines Dragon Boat racing? Does the boat have to look like a Dragon? Most festivals wouldn't even qualify with headless BUK's these days. I agree with DB Surfer, this is pretty much equivalent to Dragon Boating (sitting, facing forward, side-by-side paddling, long narrow boat).

Sorry had to point it out.
