OHDBC 3000m ChallengeJanuary 14 2009 at 3:05 PM | OHDBC Executive |
| Just to give everyone an early heads up, the annual Outer Harbour Dragon Boat Club 3000m Challenge will be held this year on Saturday, May 30th. The event is a low key (but competitive) opportunity for teams to tune up before the big events in June. It is also an "open house" for our club if you have never been down to our site.
The race format includes three races, 2 x 400m and 1 x 2000m (sort of close to a total of 3000m....) and total best time wins. We use BUK boats.
There will be more information forthcoming in late February, watch for it.

Is there a limit on the number of crews you can accommodate? |

That's a good question.
We have had about 12 crews attend the past few years and the site is pretty tight for parking and dock access, but we probably could handle 16 with some careful planning and cooperation from the crews regarding car pooling. There may also be a way to handle two waves of crews (morning and afternoon) based on some pre-seeding, if there was more interest this year. The event is generally done in about 3 hours.
The event has always been relatively small, but quite competitive. |

Last year there was a women's regatta in the afternoon. I know this is a different group running it but is this going to happen this year? |

The womens regatta is planned for Sunday (next day) this year. I'm sure there will be information about it in the near future.

Outer Harbour Senior Women will be hosting our third Women's Regatta on Sunday May 31. The race format will be the same: 400m heat, followed by 200m knockout and finishing with a 2km. The past two years there were cash prizes for first, second and third place and we are hoping to be able to offer the same this year. As we work out the details we'll post them on our web site. |
