Were a recognized top-level crew who is considering many options this year. We could either recruit from the people who are looking to change teams or we could combine with an existing team that has a core of dedicated people looking to make a push for Macau.
Our potential merger partner doesnt have to be an A-level team (although that would be nice), but it must have a solid group of fit individuals who want to dedicate themselves to compete for the CCWC.
Since this would be a two-party process we dont have much more in the way of details to provide. Any teams who may be interested are invited to email us at: dbmerger@gmail.com
Please be assured that we will keep all communication confidential and we expect the same from any who contact us.
We will not be answering question on this forum. If you have questions, please email us at the address provided.
I hear that Mayfair and Sudbury were considering a merger.

LOL...throw in the Hammerheads and the Killer Guppies from L.A. Then you'd call it the "Ocean DBC"
Seriously now, its a serious request. Let's not pollute the thread too much.

"Two paddling greats such as Rob Chang and Stan Mahacek together forever!"
Tooting your own horn? Please.
I'm not saying its either rob or stan but somebody putting their buddies on a pedestal. I'm not saying they're not great. This statement just isnt necessary but again this is the forum so a sh*t storm is a ah-brewing.

Mayfair and Sudbury? What is the incentive for Mayfair to merge with any club from Ontario? Unless it is just to bring their average age down.
Rob Chang
Not me
February 24 2009, 1:30 PM
I didn't write that. Quite frankly I don't think I am at Stan's level at all.
It's an honour that someone would write my name beside his though.

Both Rob and Stan are incredible paddlers who have given back endlessly to the sport of paddling which has given them so much.

Good to see Mayfair back in the discussion...I'm sure they were feeling a bit neglected....
Been there, done that.
Mergers vs. Recruiting
February 25 2009, 11:16 AM
Having done both, I prefer recruiting. Mergers are harder than you may think. You would think that teams at around the same level will have similar values, but they can in fact be quite different.
The other team had/has a different coach, different captain (or team executive), different standards, etc. Whose standards will you adopt? Who will coach? Could YOU live with THEIR ideology? Can they live with yours? For many things there is no middle ground, so it can't all be compromise.
I think it's easier in the long run to recruit people who want to be a part of what your team has to offer. No negotiation, no middle grouund, just one set of standards.
"This is who we are, this is what we do. Accept it and join us, or move along and have a nice day."

I think the success of a merge depends on the teams in question and how far apart they are, as well as their attitude entering the merger. You can't generalize mergers since each one will be different. If both teams come in with the understanding that they are creating a new team - and not negotiating between two old teams - you probably have fewer problems.
I agree however that history has shown that mergers are not the panacea that some might think. Nevertheless it may be a pretty good solution if your recruiting efforts fall short and you need a fix to prop up the competativeness of the crew - avoiding losing your best paddlers out of frusteration.

Antropov and Moore traded from the Leafs for two second round draft picks and a conditional draft pick.
Interesting way to rebuild a team.
