Whisper to the other team on the starting line "I paddle faster horny than you can scared."
Then go. |

The secret to a good start isn't knowing the sequence, but to be able to execute it very well.
This is what we do, and it usually works well:
5 deep, deliberate, followed by 3 sets of 6 sprint strokes, each set progressively faster. Body forward. About 3 transition strokes into power, and then a series.
This should get you at least to 150 metres.
The key is the quality of the strokes. Don't try to sprint faster than you can maintain the stroke quality.

The big trick is the transition. You must continue to paddle hard to keep your speed. There is a real tendancy to let up during the transition strokes resulting in loosing some of the speed developed in the start. |

Our start is...
training our butts off all year round building explosive power, superior lactate threshold, never-ending endurance, incredible timing and execution and then experimenting with a bunch of different combinations of strokes until we achieve the best result with the bodies and the boat we are racing.
The good start is not a result of a secret series of stroke combinations, it's a result of the kind of training you do in the winter and the months leading up to your races. |

Chadabury, June 7 4:47 sounds like the Mayfair start.
How does your crew's explosive power, superior lactate threshold, never-ending endurance, and incredible timing and endurance help you fare against Mayfair on the start? |
