Say what?????????

June 15 2009, 1:42 PM

If I/we want info to contact Blake???? I'm sorry is it just me or is this so a** backwards? If the NDC and Blake want crews to attend they should contact us through various mediums not the other way round, lazy sobs.

Update your lousy website Blake.

Enough said on this subject.

Too late in the season for anyone going to Nationals. July would have been better

So many options + limited funds = something has to give

"will this fail like summer sensation?"

Summer Sensation, which was a great race, never failed. It was just discontinued because the organizers lost interest.

How much is it? How many races? Is it in Marilyn Bell Park? Strictly 500m?

July Sport Event vs. August Event

- roughly the same price
- Sport is 200,500,2000, August just 500
- both at Marilyn Bell Park
- Sport is Buk, August is SRS

From what I hear, the Sport Regatta is very competitive this year. Lots of good team are entering.

Toronto Cup, not so much. Seems like an afterthought for most teams.

NDC Toronto Cup Race - Aug 15th

June 18 2009, 9:28 AM

Have to admit that this is getting a little frustrating. I've asked Blake to send out an update and he had not done that. Last I heard, he had 20 teams signed up. I'm not even sure at this point that this is true. Blake does not respond to my emails.....EVER! I just wish I had some sort of idea what teams are doing this event.

I heard last week they had 8 teams and were considering what to do.

Wow, I remember Blake telling me that there was a deadline. I couldn't round things up quick enough so I just decided not to attend.

"I heard they only had 8 teams and were considering what to do?"

You wouldn't happen to have any idea when they plan on making that decision?

There's absolutely not enough advertising or information about this event to make it worthwhile. Our team was thinking of doing it but would much rather opt for Woodstock.

Toronto Cup Update from NDC

June 19 2009, 2:58 PM

Hello folks!

I normally would not participate in a forum thread like this because it's hard to respect ignorant and misinformed postings, especially anonymous ones. But I thought I should set the record straight.

Facts on the Toronto Cup 2009 Race...

Date: August 15, 2009

Location: Marilyn Bell Park / Western Beaches Watercourse

Fee: $900, includes four 500M races and 2,000M event for top teams

Race Format: The race format is not finalized yet, we'll wait until mid-July when more teams are registered.

Other Divisions: Right now we're focused on Premier Mixed racing, but if we get more womens teams we'll have a division for women, probably 2 races for $400. We'll need 4-5 teams to do this.

Why this race? Because it's local, one day, affordable, and there will be lots of great racing.

DBC Sanctioning: The Toronto Cup Races are sanctioned by DBC as a CCWC eligibility qualifier.

Teams registered so far (21): Banana Boat, Blades, CSDC, Dragonboat Club @ York, G&G Dragons, GSK, Mojos, Mount Sinai, 5 Pickering U-23 Teams, Quicksilver, Second Wind, SOW, St. Joe's, Stonehookers Women, Team Unbwogable, University of Waterloo, Whiplash.

Other teams contemplating racing: Big Fish, BMO, FCCP, Hanalei, Scotiabank, Smokin Tuna.

Other Information:
-There was an early bird deadline set for the end of April; teams registered by this date received a $100 discount
-The final registration deadline is Friday July 24th
-I agree that our website needs work and we have someone working on it right now; it should be updated by the end of next week
-NDCs focus this year has been on improving the practice site and coaching services, and based on the feedback so far we are making significant progress

If anyone has any questions regarding National Dragonboat Club and its operations please contact me directly at the office: (416)532-6979 or blakehara@nationaldragonboat.com.

Please try to stay positive.
Regards, Blake

City strike

Ok, in the spirit of staying positive.......is the NDC Toronto Cup race event still going to happen in light of the current city strike (which doesn't seem to have an end in sight)?

Hey Blake what happened to your promise of updating your website? No updates since Jan, 2009 even after you said you were working on it and would have it updated by late June.

Whats with these event providers? Both National DBC and GWN are lousy at keeping us informed.

They deserve everything they get.
