"CALGARY Dragon-boat racers wont be paddling on Calgarys Glenmore Reservoir this summer after the fledgling festivals organizers said they ran out of time to put things together.

Postponing is not a bad thing, said Chris Wong, who heads up the organizing committee and promised a race next year. This is a very big event. Its been happening for so many years. It takes lots of time to organize.
Getting volunteers, sponsorships and equipment required more time than the group had, Wong added. The group was also dealing with governance problems, as it tried to relaunch the event, he said.
Wongs group inherited the weekend festival, which attracts thousands of spectators every year, after the city yanked the licence of the Alberta Dragon Boat Race Foundation last year. The foundation had been in charge of the August races for several years, but the city cited environmental and safety problems in its decision to revoke the groups event licence."
