Top Tier Teams?

I say the following:

False Creek
Mayfair
Dragon Beasts

I don't think MGD/Events Alive/G&G belong in this category because they are throw together teams for special events.

I think teams such as Sudbury, Gorging, Masters of da zone (sp?), Hydro would be classified as the next tier of teams.

Others disagree. Please fuel the fire.

You are forgetting CSDC. Definitely a top contender in every event they participate in.

"Top contener"... With all due respect to them, nobody contends for anything except second place when Mayfair enters a regatta. I agree CSDC deserves to be included as "the best of the rest" (at least in this part of the country) but I think that something needs to go terribly wrong for Mayfair in order for the Seniors, Hydrophobic, etc. to have a shot (see Pickering, Toronto Island this weekend, etc.).

Remember when Imperial Dragons USED to be the hand selected crew of the GTA.

Yes, "Top Contender". Mayfair is definitely the dominant team in the GTA but it doesn't mean they can't be beat. Nationally, False Creek should be #1, followed by Mayfair but CSDC could easily be considered #3 over the Beasts. Anyway, CSDC certainly rank higher than MGD, Events Alive and G&G.

Who is MGD?

I thought MGD is Miller Genuine Draft... In essence, Mayfair (GWN 2007). Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I remember... I didn't know there was a difference between the two.

What is the argument for ranking CSDC above the Beasts? The Beasts and Mayfair were almost neck and neck at the nationals, and CSDC (as good as they are) have consistently been at least a boat length behind Mayfair.

Agreed. CSDC is not at the Mayfair/FC/Beast level.

In the GTA, I'd rank them at the top of the 2nd tier...Coin flip against Chiros, but probably consistently a nose ahead of Hydro. Which, by the way, ranks them as a considerably powerful crew that many others can only dream of matching.

I like SCC. I think based off of last year, I'd rank them at tier 1.5. Let's see how they do this year... hopefully we get another top tier team out of them. So where are the folks that were disagreeing with me on the island thread? Please correct me if I have not listed all the top tier teams and explain why the other teams should not be considered 2nd tier teams. flame bait

"flame bait"...funny

You know, I gotta agree that SCC is the best of the rest in Ontario. That being said, I really think that CSDC are right with them, and that SCC only has a slight advantage.

Just saw on another thread that Mayfair won't be at GWN. If so, it looks like first will be up for grabs and will see which of the two take it. I'd normally count Hydro as the dark horse, but according to the forum gossip, they've taken a slight performance hit from last year.

GWN's gonna be interesting this year.

i believe that DCH from the US is a team to really watch out for this year. They might have a chance on being number one very soon. Look out!

Mayfair probably won't be going to the nationals... a lot of them will be in Prague...
