Toronto - It's day three of the strike by about 24,000 civic workers in Toronto, Wednesday, and the garbage continues to get piled up across the city.

680News has learned that the parking lot of Sunnyside Park, near the city's waterfront, will be one of the temporary garbage drop-off locations residents can use as dumping sites.

The city said it would set up such temporary sites by the end of the week.

Crews have erected blue metal fencing around the park's parking lot, which is just a couple of metres from the boardwalk, an area that cyclists, joggers and walkers frequent.

Some of them couldn't believe this area was chosen as a dump site. "It's right by the waterfront, tourists see it...and the lake is just so beautiful, people are going to be lying on the grass, looking at the lake, turning around seeing the garbage...it is crazy," one resident in the area told 680News.

Garbage has been illegally dumped along streets, parks and beaches and city officials warned they will get tough with offenders.

A citizens group has started an online petition to urge people not to dump the garbage in parks.

Meanwhile, a new poll found most Torontonians oppose it and would support back-to-work legislation.

According to a poll in the Toronto Star, 81 per cent want the province to pass back-to-work legislation, and 53 per cent blame the union for the strike.

Services that are disrupted by the strike include garbage collection, city-run daycares, swimming pools, ferry service and recreation programs.

TTC, police, and fire services will not be affected by the strike. Ambulance service will be partially affected, but officials assured the public that ambulance service will remain safe.

Based on the City of Toronto site, the specific spots that will be affected are:
Sunnyside Park
Parking area south of Lake Shore Boulevard West, first lot east of the west
lot, between Ellis Avenue and Colborne Lodge Drive.

Sir Casimir Gzowski Park
(west of Sunnyside Park)
Parking area south of Lake Shore Boulevard West most westerly lot
