FMG Update - they are still around!July 13 2009 at 11:49 AM | Anonymous |
| So our favourite event organizers are still around:
http://www.facilitymarketing.com/DragonBoat/festivals.htm
They're down to 2 festivals, 0 sport races.
Let's hope their days are numbered and we can get both numbers down to zero.

well, i had to read it to believe it.
http://www.facilitymarketing.com/DragonBoat/whatisDragonBoat.htm
"The traditional boats used in most modern day events are 12 meters in length, constructed of solid teak and weigh approximately 1500 lbs. They are propelled by 20 paddlers, guided by a Cox or Steersperson and kept in rhythm by a drummer seated at the bow of the boat, maintaining a steady, and powerful pace for the duration of the traditional 500 meter course.
A sheer strength advantage in each individual paddler rarely results in victory. Teamwork combined with a good strength to weight ratio is the key. Well coordinated female and mixed crews routinely defeat all-male crews." |

joel as the person who posted this link out of sheer randomness i now know that i have fulfilled my purpose in this world.
key takeaways:
- teak boats are the boats of choice
- mixed crews can beat mens crews with sync
- and then fmg woke up
i think you could learn something from fmg. they have great insights into the world of dragonboating.

I see where they were going with this, but... come on! |

Technically they're right, if you look at Mayfair, False Creek, Beasts, compared to your typical men's crew...
After these three examples though, not so much. |

What were the times at the Island? Looks like Mayfair would have lost (solely looking at race times and with absolutely no other logical information) to the open division teams. |

The Dragon Beasts won the men's division at Nationals last year racing head to head with their mixed crew against good teams like RTF and CSDBC. |

And then FMG woke up. |

Must be a slow day for whining, because this thread seems like a pretty weak attempt to flame FMG. I know there are other complaints about this company but to diss someone for trying to sell the sport is kinda lame. |

I don't think there is even a need to diss FMG anymore... 2 random races is nothing to brag about for a "world class operation" |

Nothing classy about FMG. They are still running a Winnipeg festival and Scott is a BIG JERK. He "fired" a bunch of his volunteers for helping at a new Canadian Cancer Society festival. Maybe he wanted to torpedo the new festival so they wont steal his business. |

Were there no older threads you could resurrect? |

If I feel the need to comment on FMG still being idiots in 2012, then thats what I'm going to do.
That they fired volunteers for helping at another Cancer charity festival, should be shouted from the rooftops. If you personally don't like it then cruise on through Mr. Anonymous. |

Hey MB paddler,
In the future perhaps you should create a new thread. Cheers. | |
