There were lots of dragonboaters at the Around the Island race last month.

Any DB teams/individuals (Big Fish?, CSDC?) entering the Wai Nui Why Not race in Mississauga on August 9?

Some of the Mayfair paddlers who participated in the Island race are thinking about participating in the Wai Nui race... whether OC-1, OC-2, or OC-6 (in partnership with Fairport) is still to be determined. The Canadian premier women's team has a training camp that weekend so some of the female paddlers from Mayfair, Big Fish, and other teams who also race outrigger won't be around.

So results? How bad were the t-storms?

The race was called half way through due to severe thunder & rain!

A number of paddlers hightailed it to Port Credit to seek shelter and wait out the storm while another group returned to the starting line.

Lots of dragonboaters were there from many teams. (Mayfair, Hanalai, Riptide, Saint Joes..name a team...). Wai Nui, TSCC and Fairport Outrigger clubs were well represented.

There were 7 sixes entered as well as several singles, doubles and kayaks.
Nice BBQ on the Mississauga Sailing Clubhouse rooftop afterwards when the sun returned.
