I think there is one Pickering U23 boat going because there is only one pdbc u23 boat, not 5.

"dude... the third team listed is csdc... and hopefully it'll be the good G&G team..."

The good G&G Team? You are completely out of touch with reality.

CSDC will not be at this race but the Alliance Premier crews will be.

Is there any one central information source regarding this regatta?

It seems that it is one of the most disorganized events ever.

nothing really too competitive in this regatta.

I think they mean something along the lines of, "not that many top competitive teams"

Nothing beats a local regatta - park - race - beer - home.
Looking forward to racing in these new Kahlua Boats.

Is dragon boat one or two words?

Is National Dragonboat club a mistake (think of IDBF or DBC), or is it really a word?

If it's a name or trademark or whatever then who cares?

They could call it Nationaldragonboat from a branding perspective. Correct English would be National Dragon Boat I guess.

I still can't believe these guys had the nerve to call themselves "national dragon boat club".

What is national supposed to represent?

Re: NDC August 15

I think this was in part because of their affiliation with the National Yacht Club a few years ago.
The boats are stored their during the week.
I have no problem with it.

I'm still waiting to find out who their coaches are:

But I do find it impressive that Joel has paddled half way around the world, talk about a distance super star!

Re: NDC August 15

August 11 2009, 4:44 PM

This is a bit of a strange regatta, I mean there will be some fast teams there, but the field isn't that large and if it's run well at all should be a very quick day with 6 lanes going the whole time. Seems strange also that Blake and NDC haven't managed to put out a schedule by the Tuesday before the event.

Someone above mentioned that their captain had sent out info which may indicate that this has been done.

I had been a busy year in the GTA for events and I think this one will be better attended next year with no nationals within driving distance a week later.

Re: NDC August 15

August 14 2009, 6:35 PM

This is so easy I don't know why no one else has seen this yet.

1. SRP - If people are picking them to grab one of the 5 CCWC spots at nationals, why aren't they predicting them to win here?
2. U23 - Peaking for the worlds
3. Blades - Best of the rest.

So anyone have results

Results

August 15 2009, 5:52 PM

Mixed
1. U23 Nationals - Looked solid and ready to do damage at Prague
2. Saints - Looked very strong but had a little help
3. PDBC - Bumped up from A consolation to third after SRP steering mishap DQ'd them

SRP was in control of the final but lost control and hit Saints. U23 who was running third down the course squeaked through with a strong finish.

Women
1. Stonehookers - Solid crew of Tutty's friends. Lots of international experience in that boat
2. SRP Women - Solid 2nd and finished close to 1
3. Alliance - Lost touch with the leaders and finished back in the pack

Open
1. SRP Open - Strong all the way through
2. Alliance - Solid second
3. PDBC U23 Open - Left back from the leaders.

2k was different than normal. 1500m straightaway then a turn at the 500m start line with a straight 500m to finish off. Boats started 3 abreast at the same time in two waves spaced 1 minute apart. Interesting setup but ultimately not that interesting since each set of three wash rode each other and the team with the inside lane held a huge advantage.

Great weather and great racing though!

Mixed Final.
U23 had a great finish, they'll do well at the worlds.
SRP, don't think they had any kind of control in that race at all.

Good Event, good competition.

August 17 2009, 1:22 PM

A very enjoyable well organized event with some decently competitive teams especially in the top 8. I'm happy this mid-August event is back at Marilyne Bell Park. Good luck to the Prague bound teams!
