| Great event on the weekend.
Finally seems they've figured out a way to make the basin fair. Still about 5 seconds slower than a deep course, but at least fair. Crews were winning from all lanes.
Nice to see so many officials on the water, especially for the 2000m races. |

The only question I have is why is there a difference between the Nationals
and the IDBF Racing Format. Did some crews not qualify in time for the Nationals
to be eligible for the Club Crew World qualifiers ? |

Something doesn't add up with the CCWC point summary.
DBC needs to re-work the numbers.
With the Premier Women, they didn't award the correct points to the OHDBC
Premier Women (they should have 14 points, coming second twice - they've
awarded them 10 points as though they came in third).
There seems to be the second place point value missing.
The points awarded for 10 Crews should be as follows - 10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1.

| Re: Nationals results are up | August 24 2009, 12:42 PM |
my understanding of the point system was this:
10 First
5 Second
3 Third
2 Forth
and winner of the a consolation was given 1 point. |

Looks like Big Fish and Mofos skipped the 2K. Understandable given the over 4-hour gap between their 250m final and 2k. |

I saw 2 sets of points systems, one for the CCWC qualifying and the other for the Canadian Championships which included the 2k and every placing had a points allocation. |

The results were conclusive Verdun Adren is and remains the best crew in Canada.
We paddled hard and we deserved the success.
Even though we had 11 paddlers at the Worlds we still dominated, this shows the depth our club has and I have never been more proud to be a member of this club ....
Everyone else go back to train and maybe you might make next year more competitive

CCWC points do not include the 2000m race.
National champs points are based on the IDBF nations cup ranking scheme.

I have seen this crew race a number of times this year, and I am once again very impressed.

Alliance wasn't bitter. Not really sure where you got that from. They were walking around with their heads down, but that was just because they were tired from racing so much. |

One must think this sport is very easy to master.
How else can you explain how a bunch of second year paddlers can make elite teams like Verdun , The Elite Women's teams etc...
Years ago paddlers who had (flat water exp etc ) were only considered to make these elite teams.
No wonder DB will never be an Olympic event. |

Hmmm....let's see. The Alliance qualified ALL 11 CREWS for Macau and CSDC Crews SWEPT the Senior Division. Ya! Alot to be bitter about. You must have been in the Senior Mixed 2000m when CSDC almost crossed the finish line first after being the final crew off the start.

| Seniors can't compete??? | August 25 2009, 11:41 PM |
To August 19th 11:19
Why don't the Seniors compete in the Premier Division? My young lad, we've been competing all season in the Open and Premier division and holdin' our own. Sure, go ahead and check the times and results we have posted. Go on, do it. Why my child, we've been training and working hard all season just like the rest of you. In fact, I promise you, even more. Year round. Four times a week on the water during the season, twice a week in the pool and twice in the gym as a crew in the winter, plus our own gym time another twice or three times per week. Go ahead, let's set up a fitness test (you can create it as your heart desires) and just for ****s and giggles, let's just see how you measure up to those of us "SENIORS" in the CSDC crew. Go ahead boy, I said go ahead, take the challenge and step up to the test. You'll regret it my son. Heck, our women would embarrass your sorry ass in the test. Now what was it I was going to say next? Crap. The mind goes first they say now don't it... |

Most Premier crews can only hope to be half as good as CSDC. This "Senior" team consistently beats 99% of the so-called "Premier" teams. I think alot of the bitterness is generated from the Premier crews that can't measure up to a Senior crew. |

| Re: Nationals results are up | August 26 2009, 9:54 AM |
I suppose there's a lot of time to practice in the twilight years. Just kidding. Much respect to the Seniors, seriously. You guys SHOULD compete in premiere. It gives incentive for the younger folk to work harder. |

| Re: Nationals results are up | August 26 2009, 10:31 AM |
I know you are kidding about the twilight years but you have no idea how committed you have to be successful at this sport at the age of 40+. Most people at 40+ are in the maximum earning phase of their lives which means a HUGE work commitment. Add in kids, spouses, aging parents, houses to look after etc... and you have a VERY busy life. CSDC practice 4 times a week in the spring/summer and twice a week in the winter. Without this commitment they would be just another crew, like a large number of the Premier crews that don't make the commitment to fitness and improvement. Nobody should be disrespecting CSDC as their members make many sacrifices in order to maintain their status as one of the elite clubs in Canada. |

I think it is safe to say that the field this year at nationals was pretty diluted. Lots of strong teams missing: Mayfair, G&G, False Creek, Dragon Beast... Need I go on?. But with that being said it is still a tough feet to be national champions! Yohan seems to be a very proud member of his club an as well he should be, but in my opinion Verdun still has to prove themselves against the aforementioned teams to really call themselves national champions.

| Re: Nationals results are up | August 28 2009, 2:54 PM |
Well - if you have been paddling your whole life at sprint/flat water, then you should know how to pull water.
We were always told - You dont know anything about paddling until you have been doing it for 5 years. By then you know about the feel in the boat, water under your boat and blade. and other things. As we say "time on the water"
Now here it goes -- how can dragonboaters make up time... you cant. You just do what you have to do but you have to do single boats.
OC or marathon or even kayak. to get that feel and strength.
Now for the premier crews.. you must remember that Tour East always paid/and represented the premier crews for years. And then when there was no more $ to send the flat water guys - they dont go. They wont go and pay for themselves and its not because they dont have any but principle. They think to highly of themselves. Alot of them are professionals and make alot of money. Now there are a few that or coaching or even paddling. Those have a love of the sport. (like Jim F.) Its a way of life for these guys.
Thank GOd they are around to help the Canadian teams get better. Now Jim F. has nothing to do with the GM team and never has.
So please dont put his name with GM, although if he wanted to he could put together a kick ass team to win the berth, but I think he has enough on his plate already.
THe politics in this sport is what is stopping us from being an Olympic sports and of coarse the greed for money. Organizers make alot of money doing these races/regattas. They dont do it for the sport.
My thoughts... |

Yohan does indeed paddle for Verdun.
He's a second year paddler who by some miracle or he must give the best BBJs to have moved up from Verdun's b-team to their A team.
He's also on the MahJongg Men's team.
He is quite cocky is a true fact. |

Having raced and given Verdun their well earned respect, I refuse to believe anyone would post such ridiculous drivel.
I wouldn't want to be him if he did. I have seen nothing but the best of sportsmanship from this crew and it would be a shame if this tool did in fact post that and shame the entire club like that.
I would bet money it's some loser trying to slam him and embarrass the team. | |
