Come volunteer with the MOFOs @ Daily Bread Food Bank [Oct 10, 2009]

September 3 2009 at 3:47 PM

Hi everyone,

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the Daily Bread Food Bank needs volunteers to help them through the seasonal rush. The MOFOs would like to invite our friends in the paddling community to come join us in helping the Daily Bread at their warehouse location. The Thanksgiving food drives bring in an influx of much-needed food all at once, so we will be working hard to sort through the donations and help ensure that the food is distributed to various soup kitchens, food banks and shelters within the Daily Bread's umbrella in a timely manner.

As always, it is a fantastic way to give back to the community and meet other intriguing people who are looking to help out. As a bit of background, the Daily Bread Food Bank is dedicated to eliminating hunger in and around Toronto by feeding hungry people. This non-profit charitable organization aims to put an end to the root causes of hunger through various public education programs and research. Serving over 170 food programs, Daily Bread is Canada's second largest food bank.

This Thanksgiving, we will be helping at the Daily Bread Food Bank on Saturday October 10 from 1PM to 5PM. If you are interested in helping out, you can reserve your spot via email: sara @ mofosdragonboat.com

Cheers!

On October 10, a contingent of nearly 40 MOFOs and friends volunteered at the Daily Bread Food Bank to help sort through the food donations collected from local fire halls and supermarkets for Christmas. The outpour of donations over the holidays from the public is incredibly heartwarming!

Thank you for your generous support and for helping us support this great cause.

Supporting the Cause

You help make a difference! Only with your on-going support will we be successful in the fight against hunger in our communities. Daily Bread Food Bank relies solely on individual, corporate and foundation support to help feed people in need, educate the public about hunger issues and address the root causes of hunger. Because of this support, the Daily Bread was able to feed almost 900,000 people last year through a network of neighbourhood food banks across the GTA, as well as store, sort and ship millions of pounds of donated food across Canada. Your support is critical in our fight to end hunger.

If you were unable to attend our event on October 10, or would like to contribute, further information can be found here:http://dailybread.ca

Most Needed Items

As the holidays approach, if you are wondering what food you can donate to make the most impact, here is a list that the Daily Bread has put together:

* Canned fruits & vegetables
* Canned fish & meat
* Cans of soup or hearty stew
* Dried pasta & tomato sauce
