Paddle Pools in GTASeptember 24 2009 at 11:27 AM | JS |
| Are there any other facilities in the GTA that have a paddle pool similar to that at the Mississauga Canoe Club. |

refuse all you want
maybe they should charge $130 and include a coach
so that's about $5 a person (as the pool fits 25) |

Nothing compares to the pool GWN built a couple of winters ago.
Anyone care to build this again?
Likely no money in it so for GWN it was just an experiment.
Check it out.

Wow, that brings back memories (very short memories). That thing was awesome, it blew away the Missy setup from a DB standpoint. It died too quickly to really catch on.

Actually that thing wasn't awesome. It was a great idea, but the water didn't flow very well. |

It was however a good prototype. The problem was that the two bends in the loop were too small of a radius. If the bends were larger, the water would flow faster and much more smoothly. In addition, the canal itself was too narrow and caused a bit of turbulence. A wider canal would have helped minimize this.
It felt like doing a practice on a full boat with only 14 people paddling.

it could have been the bends were too small a radius, but more likely it was the rubber lining that was used. To keep a good seal they used one huge piece, and had to fold up all the excess that resulted from the curve.
The straight sections had laminar flow, the corners were a turbulent mess. |

Well actually a permanant pool might compare...

The guys at 22Dragons built an amazing pool. You are seated like in a BuK. My team paddled there all winter and can't wait to start up again this year.
And yes I know this was a Toronto thread so save the snarky comments. Just thought people might want to see the best in pool paddling. |

Looks like a nice pool there in QC.
What is the "tub" made of? Do you find constant resistance - as if you are paddling with only half your boat? Or does the water flow fast once everyone gets going? Is it portable? |

Can we see bigger pics?
And great idea from to build a dragonboat gym. A one-stop shop for all paddlers |

The pool is an above ground concrete structure. It's actually two pools, one for the rights and one for the lefts. It feels amazing! You sit like in a DB and the water flow is a very close simulation. I sued to pool paddle at the basin and this is like going from a honda civic to a BMW. It fits 24 paddles with tons of room for the coach to move around. This is not a pool that is adapted for DB it was designed and built for DB.
Can't wait to start pool paddling! I never would have said that before. | |
