New Poll

August 11 2011, 12:35 AM

New poll, which of the below bests describes this team which used paddlers from all over a country to enter a "club" crew championship, can only muster 18 for the big race, puts itself forward as a nominee for USOC team of the month and then votes 7000 times for itself to oust the world cup soccer team from this honor?

A. Chutzpah, is used indignantly, to describe someone who has overstepped the boundaries of accepted behavior with no shame.

B. Hubris, also hybris, means extreme haughtiness, pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence or capabilities

C. Both

They simply stuffed the ballot better than the rowing pair did. Would you have criticized the rowing pair if they had won the vote instead? Didn't think so...

Who wants to tell the USA Olympic committee that they cheated and lost?

Consider the whole picture, would you or would you want your coach to have nominated your team in the first place? A couple of small boat silvers in a poorly attended club race when you know some consider you to have stretched the rules? Ask this question in light of the caliber of the other nominees, world cup soccer team, world champion teams, etc. Most would stop there and say wait until we at least win something of substance in a pure manner. And then when you get the nomination how do you suspend your ethical principles and vote for yourself (in the old days this was considered tasteless) 7000 times when you know full well others are more deserving? Hence the second poll, chutzpah seems the right word here.

The coach did not nominate himself. Get your facts straight before spewing your hate here.

So perhaps someone close to the coach nominated the team. Or perhaps it was some random fan who genuinely thinks they deserved it.

Why does that matter? The coach then appealed to friends and family to vote as many times as possible. If that doesn't nullify the significance of the win, I don't know what does.

Someone on the USOC made all the nominations. Get over it.

It's kind of funny because you know anyone defending manayunk is one of their 18 members. Or maybe some more quit since they had such a poor performance.

What's amazing is that some people here actually care about the results of a twitter poll!!!

This is blank, does this mean there are no criteria?
I can see the Women's Soccer program, they are the love of the soccer world, going to the wire with Japan.
I remember the howls of the neighborhood watching the women's games, especially the final.

Update

August 29 2011, 5:09 PM

It appears that the USOC only takes the Twitter poll in an advisory sense.

"The USOC cast their vote for Team of the Month of July ... Congratulations to the US Women's Soccer Team! Manayunk Dragon Boat Racing says thank you to everyone who voted for them."

HwewH! Another travesty averted. It is aggravating how these bozos try harder at PR than at paddling! They are S l o w ww ww, and CLAIM to be Champions. Ripping off the title (Intentionally misleading) and attempting to confuse, and misrepresent themselves as such. They can not hang. The small pond makes them feel bigger.
