What has t be looked at here is a city facing possible failure
When two australian cities went before and lost, we now had Sydney, a city with no sporting history or culture.
However having seen how the 96 bid went saw this payment plan as the only way to secure the games.
It is atrocious tha sucj things can haapen, but at the time was completely abovr board according to Olympic Regulations.
Let's hope that Beijing gets 2008 to show the world was it could have done in 2000.
I love he Olympics, and I love my country (Australia). But I await the 2000 ilympics with unease. It has the potential to be a complete embarasment. They may be very cheesy games, and that would piss me off no end. I am sick of seeing australian events showing this sunshine, bathers, and life avers imange.
Beleive it or not, there is artistic culture in Australia, sure it's largely in the other capital cities but why we need to portray ourselves as beach bums all the time escapes me.
