Philip Learmont of artemesia Grey South

by

I am looking for any information about Philip Learmont born 1826 in Dumfermilne Scotland who was married to Janet Porteous, born 1831 in Dumfries Scotland. The 1871 census lists him, but not her as she died that year. I know they had a daughter Isabella, who moved to Manitoulin island. Philip moved there with his youngest children after the death of his wife and died there in 1921. He is listed in 1891 census as Larmond. They are my g-g-g-g-grandparents.

Hugh McDonald,Durham,Grey Co,1931

by

A Hugh McDonald from Durham attended a funeral in St. Thomas in 1931. The mother of the deceased person was also a McDonald but I can not find parents/siblings for her so I am now trying to determine if/how Hugh may be connected. I would expect Hugh to have been born circa 1870 but have no proof of that. I have checked cemetary records and publications available from the Grey OGS but there is nothing definitive to check out or order.I would really appreciate any advice or help anyone has on Hugh and please feel free to e-mail me directly.

Re: Hugh McDonald,Durham,Grey Co,1931

by

Hello,

I'm related to McDonald's that are from the Durham area. My ggg-grandparents John and Maragret McDonald moved to Ontario in 1857. They had a son named Hugh, he was born Jan. 15, 1838. It's possible that he had a son named Hugh. Hugh also had 4 other brothers, Rory, Peter, Alexander and Duncan. So, it's possible one of these guys were Hugh McDonald's father. Do you have any more information on your Hugh?

Adam MINARD (1818-1867)

by

I am in need of 1851 census help for Grey County. Wish I could tell you more specifically where, but I am told that there is an entry for Adam MINARD's family in this county ... Family history stated Kincardine, but that is in Bruce, so I am not trusting the family history any more !!

Anyway, he would have a wife named Sarah (Riley, b. Ireland) and a son named George W. (b1848). Adam, in other records, is listed as being born in NY or PA.

Thanks for any and all assist!

JOHN E. WILLIAMS FAMILY - Artemesia Township

by

I am seeking information on the descendants of JOHN E. WILLIAMS (1859 - 1945) & ELIZA ANN LINTON (1861 - 1938) who had resided in Artemesia Township, near the village of Eugenia. Both John & Eliza Ann Williams were buried in the Salem Cemetery, situated on the 8th Line of Artemesia.

JOHN & ELIZA ANN WILLIAMS had a family of seven children - namely, Cora Williams (Mrs. James Edward Russell); Bertha Williams (Mrs. Henry Tudor); Mary Edna Williams (Mrs. Eph. Rowbotham); Albert F. Williams (who married Isabel Howard & then Marguerite Pedlar); Charles Williams; Norman Williams (who married Lillian Essland); and Gladys Williams (Mrs. Stanley Magee).

Vital statistics and photographs for this family are required in order that the LINTON family history can be successfully completed.

Any details concerning this WILLIAMS family would be greatly appreciated.

With thanks,
Kevin.

Looking for information on William John Radley and Eda Shaw

by

My father GORDON HUDEAL RADLEY was the second son of William John Radley and Eda Shaw. He was born in Ravenna in 1923. There was an older son named William and two younger daughters called Jean and possibly Margaret.

This was the second marriage for William Radley who was born in 1870 or 1869 to George and Jane Radley. William Radley died in the mid to late 1920's and the children were all placed with CAS in Owen Sound.

Does anyone have any information about William Radley or know what happened to Eda Shaw

My GGrandfather, Matthew Irving built the Barhead (Grist) Mill in 1855-56. I have a copy of an article written for the local paper in 1936 by Isabel Cunningham Ritchie, Matthew's neice. There is also one in "Markdale and Flesherton, A Written History" 1979. Although Matthew and his wife came to Canada from Ireland(1852) the Barhead is said to have been named for Barhead, Scotland.

Barhead Mill, Barhead, Markdale

by

Barhead Mill was built in the 1850's by Matthew Irving, who came from Ireland in 1852 with his wife, Jane Cunningham. Both had family living in the area already, and Matthew, having inherited his mother's dowry wanted to do something for the community and decided on a flour mill so the people would not have to travel to Walter's Falls to get their precious flour. The building was erected in 1855-1856. This information was taken from a newspaper article written by Mrs. F.J. Ritchie in 1936.
I don't know when the Barhead Hotel was built, but Fred and Betty Peters (of Eugenia now) operated it in the early 1960's.

Young Family

by

Hi, I believe we may have a family connection. My ggg grandmother was Lavinia/Viney Ann Young who was born c 1816.Her parents were James and Catherine Milloy/Mulloy.She married a Jacob Parsons on Sept. 17, 1834. They had the following children...Keziah c1835[my line], Elizabeth c 1839, Eliza c 1843, Mathew c 1846,Mary Ann c 1850, Jacob c 1853, Allen c 1854, Lavinia c 1856, John James c 1858.Mary Ann married Thomas Paterson who also resided in the township of Bentinck. There seems to be a similarity with the family names so do hope we are connected as I was hoping to do more research on the Young side of the family.I have also been researching my gg grandfather who was a Wilson. His mother remarried a fellow by the name of James Young c 1842 and again the similarity in names is very close in their family so I wondered if perhaps he was related to Lavinia. If we are connected I have pictures of Catherine, Lavinia and her daughters. My mailing address is...Gayle Gunby, A120, R.R. # 1, Coldwater, L0K 1E0.My phone number is [705] 686-7309.

Dolway Purvis

by

You have found the right Dolway Purvis. Dolway David Purvis was my grandfather, also your mother Ruthie's grandfather. Your great grandfather. My dad John Dolway Purvis was your grandmother Mary Purvis' brother.
My oldest brother John Dolway Purvis Junior has been searching other Purvis' on the net.
I believe Dolway David Purvis' grandfather was also named Dolway.

This is a long shot but have a Theodore Cunningham (1849 - 1940) who married Elizabeth Brown (1847 - 1926) and lived in Meaford. Raised 4 children - Cora, Clarence, Mabel & Edith. If you think there may be any Cunningham connection, I would appreciate your help.

Cunningham, Brown, Stevenson

by

Lynold - Yes, that's correct. Grace passed away on Sept 29, 2001. Can e-mail a couple of photos, if you'd like them. My grandmother, Janet (Brown) Dunnill was Cora's 1st cousin, her mother Eliz. & Janet's dad Wm., being Thom. Brown's children. But I was unsure about Cora's sisters & brother and their spouses. Did Mabel marry (?) Sherwood, and did Edith marry Delbert Smith? And their children? Was their father Theodore born in Canada? Or the US? Any links to his ancestors? And what I would really like is info on Cora's grandmother, my gg-grandmother, Amanda Stevenson. Other than a name, I have no data on her. Appreciate any info or contacts. Thank you in advance.
