Haas in Egremont Twshp

by

I'm looking for ancestors/descendents of Jacob Haas, born 1802 in PA but who then moved north to Canada. His son Isaac eventually moved up to Holstein, Ont. area. Isaac's son, Alfred, was my grandfather. Any ideas of how to go further back in time would be appreciated. I have tried to search for Jacob's birth certificate in Buck's Co. PA where he was born, but they have nothing. He died in 1865 before the 1871 Cdn census.

Haas Info

by T. Muldoon

There is an 1861 Ontario Census, but I don't know where you access it. My ggrandfather was listed in it. In addition, ancestry.com has Pennsylvania census records from 1772 - 1890 in their paid section. There were 46 items for Jacob Haas. Hope this helps.

PHELAN - BUCKLEY, Durham, Ontario

by

Looking for information on JOHN PHELAN and his wife, BRIDGET BUCKLEY. Their son, my g-grandfather, was JEREMIAH JOSEPH PHELAN and was born in Durham, on September 3, 1856. John & Bridget were both born in Ireland.

I still haven't found any records (census, death or other) that might narrow down the search for them in Durham. The only reference I have is on Jeremiah's death certificate where it names his parents and his place of birth.

Thanks

1958 Owen Sound Newspaper Article...

by

Hi everyone,

I am hoping, wishing, praying, begging that somewhere there is a copy of a photo that appeared in the Owen Sound Sun Times in January of 1958 out there somewhere.
My husband was the first baby born in the "Twin Counties" in 1958. He was born in Markdale.
I have a very bad photo copy of the article (with photo of him in his mother's arms).
I was hoping to get a better copy of the article. And hoping beyond hope that someone might know if the original photo was stiull hanging about some where.
I've called the Sun Times and someone is 'supposed' to get back to me. Nothing yet. (I think I've stymied them!).
I've also written to the Owen Sound Library and no answer yet.
Any other suggestions are quite welcome.
Looking forward to hearing from someone.. anyone

Thomas & Mary Muldoon

by

I am researching my Mortley ancestry that came from the Bentinck, Sullivan and Glenelg area. I have found information, that leads me to believe that Thomas Muldoon (b. abt 1854) married Mary Adeline Hagan (AKA Heggins, b. abt. 1846, the daughter of Owen Hagen and Mary Mortley). Owen & Mary may have lived across the highway from one another. There is a Mary Mortley listed on the headstone with her parents Charles Mortley and Caroline Sexby at the Lutheran Cemetery at Williamsford, Ontario. This same Mary she died on March 15, 1875. At the 1881 Canadian Census Thomas was living with his parents - Edward and Ann Muldoon. I wonder what happened to the young Mary Adeline. Please contact me if you have any information relating to this branch of my family.

Hello Kay,

I don't know about Thomas' wife or daughter, but I believe his sister Mary Ann, born about 1867, married my gg grandfather's cousin, James Brennan, a son of Michael Brennan and Margaret Kearns. The marriage record lists Mary Ann's mother's maiden name as Priel.

Esther J. Landry

by

Hi Wally and Tara as well.
I have just discovered these listings and am excited to find someone who is connected to the Landrys. My g-grandmother was Esther J. LANDRY who married Edward DEARING abt 1875 They had eight children. My grandmother was the youngest, Mary Ella DEARING.
There is a story connected to Esther and I am wondering if any of you can confirm it. Edward and Esther moved to the Manitoulin Island abt. abt 1876-7. After my grandmother was born, Esther left the family-that would be about 1887. Esther is buried in Gordon Cemetery on the Manitoulin Is. according to a cousin.
I would love to hear from any of you who have connections.

Thomas McNabb

by

Thomas William McNabb according to the information I have was an older brother to my Grandmother Cora Elizabeth McNabb. Cora married Mathew Yates and their oldest daughter Pearl is my mother - Mom will be 91 on March 12th. She was born in Owen Sound and they moved out west to Storthoaks SK in 1913 when Mom was about 2.

Cora actually died in Owen Sound in 1953 when they were back there on a visit but she was brought back here to Saskatchewan for a funeral and burial. Matthew lived to the ripe old age of 95 and I remember him well.

I have a photo of the whole McNabb family - I am not sure when it was taken but probably prior to 1906 as that is when Grandma and Grandpa were married. If you are interested I can scan it and send it to you.

In 1993 the Yates Family had a reunion and we dedicated a cairn and plaque on the farm where they had lived. The farm is still in the family after all these years. One of the grandsons lives there.

Where are you in the line of relationship - are you a granddaughter of Thomas and Margaret?

Thanks for the interest --- Shirley Neuls

McNabbs in Ontario

by

I am looking for information on the McNabb family from southern Ontario.

I have been told that my grandfather William Henry McNabb came from Shelburne.

He married my grandmother, Katherine Lowe Billings. He met her when she came from Brooklyn, NY to visit her her relatives, the Walkers.

My grandfather's cousins were the McIlroys.

My grandfather was in tobacco sales. He and my grandmother lived in the US, had tow children - Margarette and Lorne. Spmetoime in the 1920s they moved to Winnipeg (St. Vital) and had two more children - Ronald and Constance Jean, my mother.

I have been told that the original McNabb came to Canada to work for Hudson Bay Company. I don't know what year.

He married a native lady and they had seven sons.

My brother has met a David McNabb in Alberta who has done some research and I think we are related to him.

I still have to chase that lead down.

My mothe has recently told me that my grandfather had a brother named George who came to Manitoba before him and settled in the Minnedosa area. This was the first I had heard of this.

Any information you can give me would be great;yu appreciated.

Thank You

Mary Miller married Frederick Gateman

I have done some research on the above. It comes to an end around 1911 because the Census ended there. However, Mary would have been my Gr.Gr. Aunt. I am more interested in finding out more information on her parents John and Mary (Lau) Miller who came to Waterloo Co. about 1853. I am trying to find out where they went after leaving Wilmot Twp. I cannot locate them in the 1861 Census

Mary had two sisters, Caroline, Louisa, and two brothers Charles and William. I have no info on William at all. Charles was my Gr. Grandfather. mary married Frederick Schultz and Caroline married Christian Bohms.

I realize this is a old querie, but if you have any info, I would be glad to be in touch. Annabelle Holley.

Gibson/Bodle of Thornbury, Ont.

Seeking info/relatives re: Joseph Gibson and his wife Sharlet Bodle (or Boodle), who came from Ireland pre-1845. Staunch Presbyterians. Joseph lived to be 106, died in 1880's. Both are said to be buried in Thornbury. Eldest daughter Jane eloped with a Catholic, Lawrence Claffy, to Syracuse NY, died in childbirth; her sister Ann then married Lawrence to care for the children. Ann's daughter Mamie is my ggrandmother, the family moved to Minnesota and Canadian connections are lost. The Brooks family of Thornbury are related somehow. Any leads at all would be appreciated.

Gibsons in Thornbury

Suggest you phone the Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery in Thornbury. Mr. Al Gibson is the groundskeeper, and was very helpful to me in my search.

He knows everyone buried in that cemetery, which is quite large, and as he is a Gibson who has lived there all his life, he may be able to help you.

I don't feel comfortable giving out his number, but there is nothing to stop you looking him up in Canada411 on the internet! Good Luck!

YOUNG / Walters Falls/Berkeley/Owen Sound

by

Hello,

I am looking to connect with other Young/Quinn descendants from the very large family of Samuel Young and Margaret Quinn. Both Samuel and Margaret were born in Ireland. They married in Grey County on 1.1.1859. They had 14 children, including my great grandmother Letitia among them. If anyone has a connection to this family, or any information, please email me. I have much information to share. I would like to find the parents of Samuel if possible. His mother fled to Canada during the Irish Famine. I am pretty sure that Samuel and Margaret are buried in the Berkeley/Walters Falls area near Owen Sound, along with Margaret's mother Elizabeth (Morrison) Quinn and possibly Samuel's mother as well. Thank you for your time.

I too am a descendant of Samuel Young. Thomas Young (Samuels son) was my grandfather. Thomas and Barbara Christina (Fraser) Young are buried in Harkaway Cemetary, Holland Twsp. I have searched the Cookes Presbyterian Cemetary in Berkley as that is where I was told the Samuel and Margaret were buried. No luck. Apparently there is another Presbyterian Cemetary there, but had no luck finding it when I was home in Thanksgiving. My father told a story that there was someone buried on the family homestead. Haven't confirmed who or even if it is fact. Thomas and Barbara had an child (Gordon) who died at 7 days who is also buried with the grandparents in Berkely (according to my Aunt. Have been in contact with two of Alexander Young's descendants (Samuel's son) who also stayed in the Grey County area. Have posted this info mainly to let others know that we are having some luck on the Young side. I am still having no luck on the Fraser side.

If you can give me a bit more info on current Young relatives, I will be able to confirm the info and figure out where you may fall in the family. There is one original brother who came from Ireland named James, that I am just starting to make some headway on. Does the name Hayes figure into your family.

I donot see a connection with your Youngs at this time. I am researching John Archibald Young b.9/14/1830 where?.In Dec. 1853 he and Margaret (McIntyre) settle in Bentinck, Grey Co. I find them there until 1881 or so when they left eventually ending up in Manitoba. Nearby their farm is a Thomas young and a Rachel (Lunatic or Idiot} so I assume these were siblings. I don't know where they came from but poss. Mother's name was Kate (?) Malloy married to a John Young. Children: Donald (Daniel) b.,1855 m. Jessie? or Jane? 1875, Kezia 1858-1862 buried St. George's cem in Hanover,James 1860 drowned 1879, John(Jack) b.1862 m. Lucy DeForge, Archibald 1864 m. Holley Ancestors in Vandeleur

My grandmother was a Holley from Vandeleur. She was the daughter of John Holley and Hannah Harvey.
I have the book " SPLIT RAIL COUNTRY....A History of Artemesia Township" which has some information on Vandeleur. I will gladly look up information in the book if it will help you. I know how hard it is to get information on this family. Just let me know what it is you are looking for and I'll check my book. Who are your ancestors? My guess would be that we are related since all the Holley's in that area are descended from Adam Holley.

If you want you may contact me directly since I don't check this site out to regularly.

OCFA/LDS

by

Hi. First thing to do is to check out the Ontario Cemetary Finding Aid website and see if you can locate him there.
http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/homepage.html

Then with the information you glean from there you can then go to the site listing the indexes from the lds church
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/9332/lds-d.htm

Next step is to go to your local LDS church and possibly order in the reel with the death registration on it and copy it right off the reel.

Hope this helps you out!

SMITH/KONKLE

by

I am searching for information on John Henry Smith born in Lincoln County 1844 and his wife Mary Catherine Konkle born also in Lincoln County around 1847. John Henry and Mary moved first to Sarnia in 1888 and then on to Tobermory about 1900. I found some info about them in the book Fishers of the Lakes... and have many of the descendents of their son William Henry Smith.

I am looking for information on other descendents of John and Mary Catherine as well as the parents of John Henry. I would appreciate any info on this family and am willing to share my research if we connect.

Thanks
Carole
