Searching For Noble Family

by

I would like to learn more about the John Noble that married Ina Belva Mann. They apparently had a son named Reginald Mervyn born in 1916, died 1982.

John presumably died in Owen Sound.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Bill Noble

Laidlaw of Durham Grey South

by

I am trying to establish whether the James Laidlaw a Mason in Durham was my gt gt grandmother's elder brother. James was, according to the 1901 census, born Jan 10 1824 in Scotland. His wife was Elizabeth and he had the following children William b Sep 23 1855 Jessie b 1859 James b 1864 Robert b 1869. He was married to Elizabeth. My James was the son of William Laidlaw and Janet Boyd and he was born in Craigie Ayrshire Scotland late 1823. James's uncle James was a Mason in Glasgow. Does anyone know anything about this family. I may have the wrong James Laidlaw but find too many name associations in his family. All the best Robbie

Jandt/Yandt/Geisel

by

I am searching for any information on the Jandt/Yandt and the Geisel families. They lived in Grey County in the 1800's, mostly around the Hanover, Ayton area. I have the Farm Lanes of Bentinck, I am mostly searching for the conrad Geisel and Margaret Dickert Family, they lived in Ayton until 1918 and then moved to Waterloo. Conrad's first wife Christina Yandt died in 1903 in Bentinck, leaving him with the children, Herbert, Jacob and Rosina. Herbert enlisted in WW11 but then deserted in Kingston and was never heard from again, presumed drowned in the lake there but I have found no record of him. Margret and Conrad supposedly had children in Ayton as they married in 1906 but I have not found any kids either. If anyone has any information on this family please email me

Thank you
Corrine

Peter Campbell

by

Peter Campbell who married Sophia McCann was born in Paisley, Scotland. This information comes via a note written by Margaret Campbell, Peter's daughter and now in the possession of Virgina Olhauser in Carbon, Alberta. It was part of a collection of materials that were handed down from Flora Campbell. Flora married Robert David Little and moved to Alberta with her family in 1905 to homestead in the Carbon area. The materials were handed down through Robert's oldest son Tom Little and then on to his eldest daughter Virginia. Virginia is still living in Carbon and is now in her nineties. I got his information from my brother in law, Phillip Little of Nanaimo.

Nicholas Stecher Allan Park Shoemaker

by

Nicholas Stecher/Stitcher died Nov. 16, 1903 in Grey County. He is buried in St. George's Cemetery. In "Farm Lanes of Bentinck" there is a short note that he was the Allan Park shoemaker. Was hoping that someone with access to old issues of the Hanover Post newspaper would check to see if there is a death notice/obituary that might have additional information about this man. There is the possibility that he is my fourth great grandfather who left his wife and children in Michigan and returned to Canada.
Thank you

From the 1901 Census Artemesia that I have your great aunt lived at Lot 1 Kinross St. which I believe is in Priceville. In the history book of Priceville there are a number of "Watsons" listed in the index. Now I believe this book is out of print but you might be able to get a copy on loan thru the interloan library system.

MULDOON/PRIEL families of Holland/Glenelg

by

I am trying to connect the family of my ggggreat-grandmother, Ann PRIEL (born about 1830, Ireland), who married Edward MULDOON (born about 1826, Ireland), to John and Bridget PRIEL (both of Ireland). I know a great deal about the PRIEL family, but have no way to connect them to my Ann PRIEL, other than the fact that they all resided in Grey County at the same time and that Priel is a very uncommon name. I dont have info on Ann's parents, siblings, how she got to Canada from Ireland, did she come with Edward or did she meet and marry him here, etc... I think she is probably their daughter, as the age fits and many names of the PRIEL children acted as sponsors at Edward and Ann's children's baptisms and weddings. Still, I have no firm evidence, and so I am very reluctant to add John and Bridget as Ann's parents until I have proof. Any help or suggestions on this subject would be greatly appreciated,
Kim

Re: MULDOON/PRIEL families of Holland/Glenelg

by Chris Starfire

Hello,

I don't have information on Ann, but her daughter Mary Ann married in o my Brennans, marrying James Brennan on 16 May 1887 at St. Paul's Church.

If you have any information to share about them, I would be very glad to have it.

What I do have is this: James was born about 1855 to Michael Brennan and Margaret Kearns in Holland Tp.

Michael was born about 1820 in Leighlinbridge, Carlow, Ireland, and died sometime after the 1881 census. Margaret was born about 1835 in Ireland. Other children that I have found record of on census are Catherine born 1857, Thomas born 1859, and William born 1866.

Michael is single on the 1851 census and married on 1861, 71, 81. I have not found any record of the family in 1901 or 1911 (many of the Brennans left the area in the late 1800s).

Mary Allen 1874

by

While researching my Gracey - Carothers line in Ontario, I found that Ann Platt bequathed in 1874 an item in her will to a cousin named Mary Allen of Owen Sound.

I hope to learn how Mary Allen was related. Ann Platt was a daughter of John Gracey of Weston, Ontario, Canada. As far as I can determine, her mother was Margaret Carothers/ Caruthers. So far I have been unable to connect either John Gracey or Margaret Carothers Gracey to any other siblings and would love to do so.

Any leads would be enormously appreciated.

Jamieson connection....

by

You had wrote to Scott Jamieson in reference to our genealogy. Scott is my brother, he died last July.
The townships that are Jamiesons can be found are Grey and Ethel. We can also be found in Simcoe County...in Marysborough and West Gwillimbury. Our family tree is online, I will give you the link which shows everything I know. I know we have a John Jamieson born March 20, 1836....my sources show he was either born in Quebec or West Gwillimbury in Simcoe County, ONT. I appreciate your time in reading this and hope to hear back.

I would like to contact you re: your thread in 2003 regarding Campbells in Grey County.

I have looked at the Campbells that you spoke of. The names are the same but the dates are slightly different in the 1871 census.

Please send me an email so that I can check out some information with you.

Thanks
JC

Re: William Lockton Billings

by

I am researching the Billings family of Owen Sound, Ont.
My father was William Lawrence Billings born 10 May 1901, son of John Billings born 1870; mother was Theresa Josephine Parker, born 23 Dec 1870, Owen Sound, daughter of Stephen Parker and Maliozine LePash. He was also the great-great grandson of William Lockton Billings, who was born the 6 May 1805 in Nottingham England. His occupation was Md (Surgeon). It appears he might have immigrated to Canada, when I'm not sure, however, I found what appears to be him in the Canadian Genealogy Index, 1600s-1900s, and would like to find out if he is the same Wm. Lockton Billings.

Best regards
Sandra
