Re Colour Loss

by

Koi being a four season fish, do change colour slightly during the year. Often, colours look at their best when the water is cooler and at their worst in mid summer in high temperatures. When I say worse, I am talking about a slight loss of lustre, a slightly duller look to the shene.

Substantial loss of colour can be caused by several things:-
1. Genetics
2. Water chemistry.
3. Health Issues.

If your water quality is good and very similar to the water in which the Koi was reared, the general health of the Koi is good then the loss of colour is probably genetic and you just have to live with it. If the water quality is not as good as it could be, take steps to correct it and you should see an improvement.

As far as food is concerned, Like us, Koi benefit from good quality food such as Hikari or Kusuri. The cheaper foods are a good option for quality koi.
