I put the plants in to give the koi shade and cut down on alge it has worked on both cases . I can see how putting anything new in your pond not just plants can cause disease , but in my case I want a natural looking pond with lilly pads and other plants growing on the surface , Like I said the pond is two years old and is going strong with no problems and hopefully I wont run into any problems , but if I do being a long time fish aquarium owner I know several people who are what you would call fish doctors , anytime I had a sick fish I would call them or bring the fish to them and they would be able to figure out whats going on and in almost 90% of the time fix the problem .
