Pond Heating

by Paul C.

Totally confused having read an article in www.pond-doctor.co.uk See item What are BTUs. Example given of a 5,000 gall.pond having a turnover of 2,500 gallons per hour and suiting a heat exchanger of 170,000 BTUs. Consequently he says, you will need to install a boiler with a gross output of at least 170,000 BTU. Allow 80% efficiency so that if a heat exchanger of 170,000 BTU is chosen then a boiler of approx 210,000 BTU will be required for that system. This seems contrary to everything else I have read on the subject. Can anyone please put my mind at ease. Thanks
