That seems like poor advice to just treat the whole pond without knowing what you are dealing with! The fish will suffer if the filters do not build back up quickly. Oxygen is a good point and the recent heat will have certainly had an effect on the eco system.
With caution I treated my fish for parasites with salt baths. This is quite safe so long as you check levels and guidelines as to application and times in the bath and will not kill the bacteria in your filter. Again F&M could also be used as dip baths but only if you know it is parasites and not poor water quality
