I think your conversion to litres is a bit out, gallons x 4.5 gives the volume in litres, so that makes yours nearer 8000 litres. The price you were given for the pump is ridiculous, id find a good koi dealer in your area and go there. Garden centres which sell koi are overpriced and know very little on keeping koi, they are very different from goldfish etc and require much more maintenace. Go to a good koi dealer and they will be able to advise you and show the filters, pumps etc available. Also, 3ft isnt deep enough for koi, you need to be nearer 5ft unless you plan on heating the pond. Hope this helps.
