My name is Alan and I am in the process of building a raised pond 10ftx7ftx4.5ft (1.5 dug down 3ft raised
Due to a money issues it was put on hold about 1 year ago. At this point I had already dug the shape and cemented footings for the concrete blocks also fitted a waste pipe at the Bottom of the pond this is where I think I have gone wrong and need some advice
The bottom drain goes to a dug out wash away with a gate valve this wash away was planed of being used once every 6 months to once every year (depending on the state of the floor of the pond)to clear large waste sitting on the bottom
Now after reading various posts this bottom drain should go to the filter and I have no way of getting this to change since the garden has been concerted so this will have to stay. The original plan was for me to have 3 pipes exciting the pond walls at different heights i.e. 1ft from floor(bottom) 2.5ft from floor(middle) and 1 just at the surface of the water(top) Each pipe would have a shut off valve to isolate (i.e. bottom shut off in winter to keep temperature stable)these then would run to the filter follow the system and then re-enter the pond either through a waterfall or just pumped back in the pond I was going to put a submersible pump to move the water around so that filter does not get the same water back(just an idea)
Here is my question what type of pump should I use submersible or external I understand that external are more energy efficient but will it be able to pull the water from the pond through the filter/UV and then back to the pond or will I need a pump for each outlet (again not to sure where the pump/s should sit before filter or after the filter) with the pond being raised getting the pump below water level would not be to hard
This started off as an idea of a pond (oh how I was wrong) but it is something I would like to get in to my dad has had a pond for years but not to the scale that mine has become
Any Ideas as to what would be better any glaring mistakes that you can see being a problem am I trying to be to complicated can it be simpler any input will be received with thanks
