I must say your web site is very informative and well laid out, it's been a great help with deciding how to design my koi pond, plus advise from my local koi dealer who has been a great help too.
I have some questions as I have several doubts on what to do!
I'm tight for garden room and my koi dealer recommends 11 ft by 7 ft by 4.5 ft deep.
He also recommends a butyl liner and to raise the part of the pond above ground, due to kids etc.
I've dug the size with no problems, I've gone down 2 ft in the ground and I'm going to angle the floor over the next 1/2 ft to the bottom drain to help all waste to be filtered.
I've put a concrete collar around the pond and plan on using 18 in x 9 in x 4 in dense blocks to get the 2 ft above ground.
Q1- do I have to build the wall from the bottom of the pond or can I build it from the concrete collar?
Q2- will the dense blocks hold the water pressure?
Q3- do I have to concrete the base or will I be ok with the clay floor?
The Koi dealer advised me that the clay floor would be fine, but to set the bottom drain in a concrete case and to concrete the pipe runs to protect from any subsidence!
I live in the south east (UK), so we don't suffer harsh winters. The only problem I'm suffering with at the moment, like many others is the amount of rain we are getting.
Your help would be gratefully appreciated at this point as I'm ready to dig out the bottom drain and pipe run and build the wall.
Kind Regards
Jason
