I am in the process of building a pond, I must stress it is not dedicated to Koi but will be a mixture of the life from my small pond. Newts, frogs, four small Koi and some goldfish, with hopefully more fish to follow. A concrete coller is in place and the pond has been dug using a small digger. The size is about 9 to 10 foot wide, 18 foot long and about 4 foot deep. About 4000 gallons. I am going to use the best liner I can find. I deliberetly made the side's vertical to increase the gallonage/surface area. Problem, the sides are very rocky and i'm concerned that it may damage the liner. I have been told that I should cover the sides with old carpet, but I'm concerned that these will rot away over time and create problems. I have been thinking of using loft insulation material but im not sure if this will also rot. It would be expensive to use this but its a one off project for me, anyway it's to keep my fish and wildlife happy, it's not for my pocket. Any help, assistance, idea's, would be recieved with thanks.
