More important, however, is to test your water. If ammonia and nitrite are present, do not feed or add more fish until the readings are zero. Invest in something along the lines of "Bio-Start" (good bacteria) and add to the water if there's a problem. I find it markedly decreases the time required for the biological (waste) filter to develop.
