well it seems like the cut and thrust of being in a full time band has finally caught up with the young ones in Flyblown. As I had received news that we would be playing with Meanwhile, Larm, and possibly Mob47 in Stockholm in late May, I went to ring the bass player to tell him the good news. However, even before I managed to tell him the good news, I was told by him that he did not want to do the band anymore. Possible reasons? Wanting to spend time with his Swedish girlfriend, a change in the music he was listening to, burnt out because of playing all the time, and having no time to concentrate on new material, all of these things probably played a part. As it was, his time in the band was great, but perhaps it was time for new blood in the band...and possibly someone who was a bit older. I certainly did not feel particularly distraught over this surprising news. So of course I go to ring the drummer, already anticipating what he was going to say to me. Of course, he did not let me down, he also had decided that he did not want to do the band anymore. Reasons? Well not sure really, he said he wanted to just get a regular job and only wanted to play in bands occasionally at the weekend. Playing in a band full time was not what he was after. Of course being young means that priorities change rapidly and perhaps this was a good example of that happening. I had always been surprised that he stayed in the band for as long as he did, since he was never really into the anarcho material that has heavily influenced the band, and he always preferred the emo-crust style which was never a big influence in Flyblown. So what is this leading up to? If you have not already fallen asleep, well I am after a drummer who can play a solid d-beat, who is quick around the kit and is into punk music (preferably), and also a bass player who is a compitent bass player, since some of the riffs are complicated. Pete - it's pretty straight forward - move to Boston. There is an abundance of kids who all wear black, worship Discharge and don't have any priorities other than getting drunk, listening to crust and dreaming of being in Flyblown! We'll have a barbecue!
