service of UNION watch...

got my UNION Julius Bergter Zeigerdatum in 2003.
Back in 2003 the watch gained 1 sec/day.
Today the watch gains 3-4sec/day.
Glashuetter Original told me the watch should be serviced every 3 years or if >6sec/day, whatever comes first.
List price for service is 380 Euro.
Polishing is 100 Euro. total service time 8 weeks.
The hands have to be replaced (I guess because they will be damaged during service)

My question: should I go for the service now or should I wait?

I cannot execute any remote diagnosis, but ...

... based on what you write here, I would wait some more years. First of all, the Bergter's handwinding movement is robustely designed and well-made. It only has basic complications (pointer calendar), but no chronograph, repeater, tourbillon or anything like that. Even if worn 24/7 under normal conditions, a movement service should not be necessary before five or six years. However, if you live in an area with high humidity and temperatures, this interval can be a lot shorter.

The change in the daily rate, too, seems to be quite normal and, IMHO, not an indication that the watch is in need of a service.

Best regards,
Marcus

Thanks for the "remote" analysis, Marcus...

... I will wait some more time since I am wearing the watch in a quit watch friendly environment.
