49 and recently completed 12 week in advanced marathoning book (combo of speed tempo long) peaking at about 65 miles per week to week 10 and then a taper

ran steamtown in october at 3:26 and change - on sunday in Disney ran with the 3:20 pace team to mile 17 then disaster - just started feeling bad - not so much my legs but my stomach/ head
the only thing that happened b/4 race that I thought could be the problem was myself and my family got a 24 hour severe virus on thursday into friday but by early saturday were feeling better

can the virus be blamed or is it the training - the one thing i questioned in the training was that all long runs were done at about a minute slower than race pace - for my previous marathon I did all long runs at race pace

Thanks - this is really bugging me given the effort in training I put in
