Kenny, I just send an email with the following information and if anyone else is interested this is a very BRIEF history of the Leaksville Nursing School.
Drs. Tyner and Casteen came to Leaksville to build Leaksville General Hospital in 1924. The hospital opened in early December 1924 and the nursing school was opened shortly thereafter. It was a 3 year course. Young ladies came from all over the southeast to attend the school. Dr. Tyner ran a very tight ship and maintained very high standards for the young ladies that attended. Even if they were residents of Leaksville, they were required to live at the nursing school.
THE SCHOOL CLOSED IN 1948 due to increased standards of learning put in place by officials in Raleigh, NC. The last class to graduate in 1948 only had 3 nurses to graduate.
There was no other school of nursing in Rockingham County until RCC (Rockingham Community College) opened in 1966.
