O.k. so we know either Voldie, or Harry must die. Who do you think it will be? Also, was this just a rumor, was it a dream, or did someone actually say that J.K. said on an interview that she was going to kill Harry off in the 7th book? If so that means evil wins, or is it just a rumor and we are going to get a hollywood ending. Although it will still be terrible, A Lot of wizards and witches are going to die :-( Your thoughts, Friends?

I don't think there is anyway that Voldemort is going to be the victor here. JKR kept saying to fans "What makes you think I'm going to let Harry live?" when they questioned her what Harry would do after graduating Hogwarts. It seemed more like a statement to close the issue fast rather than saying for sure Harry was going to die.
But while the prophecy said that neither could live unless the other dies, it said nothing about either HAVING to live. Both could very well die. I personally think Harry will die in the course of killing Voldemort. But if either has to live, it almost has to be Harry...unless JKR has a really messed up mind and makes it Neville in the end...that would be the WORST ending ever.

I think that they are linked too much, by the curse that failed, Voldemort has harry's blood. meaninig if Harry killed Voldemort then he would die too because they are linked too much

I imagine that something will happen in the 7th book where both Harry and Tommy boi are fighting and then Harry's hidden power opens up or something and he kills Voldie, but at a price. Like he won and lived, but he's on borrowed time because Tommy hit him with a certain curse right before he died, or something along those lines. So, Dumledore will end up sacrificing his life so Harry can live. That seems plausible at least. For the people furthuring the spread of the rumors that Harry would die, let's consider this, why would JK reveal something as big as this? Think about it. And Helen, in the book, was the fire breathing chicken really yours? LoL. Someone also brought up the point of the Evan boy Dudley beat up. (Evans is Lily's maiden name). I can't believe I didn't notice it myself. This will definatly come into play later.

According to Dumbledore, Voldemort will not rest until Harry is dead. That line seemed important to me. Was it ever proven that because Voldemort had Harry's blood that he was mortal (and could die)? Cause if not, Voldemort's gone & come back before, so even if Harry attempts to kill him, it might not even work. "He won't rest until Harry's dead..." it seems Rowling needs to chuck Harry to basically save the rest of the magical community. So even if Harry kills him and he has to do the whole go-off-as-a-spirit thing, he won't rest. But once Harry's gone, I guess somebody else could kill him, then. Snape! I'd say Sirius, but that doesn't look to be happening. Ohh, we could see Sirius again. We just need to get Voldemort and Harry and have them say spells at the exact same time...

If Neville turned out to be the real hero and Harry died it would be terrible. I hope Harry lives, purely for the fanfiction after Hogwarts. If he lives there will be loads of fanfics concentrating on his life after Hogwarts. If he dies, they will concentrate on other people or made up people. Maybe he can get Ginny pregnant before he dies. That would be good for fanfiction, though i doubt it'll happen.

Well, as for the Ginny getting pregnant thing, I seem to remember an interview where JKR said it wasn't a series dealing with issues like teenage pregnancy and drugs. a good author may be able to write a good fanfic about that though (I say a good author because I read a fanfic about Draco getting Ginny pregnant and them telling the Weasleys. It was only a few pages long... mistake number one.)
Anyways... the interview on NBC Dateline with Katie couric makes me believe Harry's going to be OK... especially with that prophecy. JKR was talking about how you have to be something like a trecherous murderer in order to write heartwarming children's stories. Well, in a heartwarming children's story, the evil character doesn't prevail in the end... so Voldemort's as good as dead. But does the hero die in a heartwarming story? Sure. But I just don't see it happening.
...Does the person we think is the hero suddenly die and Neville Longbottom becomes the hero instead make a heartwarming story? The vision of millions of fans burning books all over the world tells me no.
I'm more worried about Ron than Harry... I think I might be MORE upset if Ron died than if Harry died.

IT CANNOT BE NEVILLE, IT CANNOT BE NEVILLE, IT CANNOT BE NEVILLE!!!! Besides the obvious fact that the story would be pointless if it were Neville (i doubt even J.K. Rowling, wonderful as she is, could get out of that one!) Dumbledore told harry :"I am afraid there is no doubt that it IS you. You are forgetting the final identifiying feature of the boy: The Dark Lord will mark him as his equal. And so he did, Harry, the night he gave you that scar." So we can relax in the knowledge that Harry will remain the hero of the books.

Well, Marissa, that is assuming that the scar is the mark. I mean it seems like the obvious answer, yes, in fact undoubtably that is the identifying "mark", but the question remains what if his scar ISN'T the mark.
Also, what if V isn't the "dark lord", farfetched i know but what if the Dark lord wasn't tommy boy and was referring, in some twisted sense, to like Dumbledore and the "one" turned out to be Draco and he killed him or something. Ok yeah, nm thats too far fetched, holes u could drive a bus through fiteen times.
However, I did just think of one thing that desturbs me. Snape calls Voldy the "Dark Lord" and so do the rest of the deatheaters, but why? it seems wrong to me. Dark implies evil and no one who believes in something like they do really, truly believe what theyre doing is wrong. I mean, in their ees their doing what is right, right? Or else they wouldn't have joined V's side. Meaning they believe they are being good little boys and girls, so why do they call him the Dark Lord?

I personally don't think the mark is the scar. I think the mark is the power Voldemort put into Harry. Before that point, no one had power to match Voldemort besides maybe Dumbledore, and even Dumbledore admits in the first book that Voldemort had powers that he didn't, even if McGonagall objects to the statement. I think Voldemort marked Harry because he put power in Harry that no one else had.
And that is a good point, SoP. Hitler thought he was righteous, not evil. So did Stalin. These murderous monsters of our history always thought they were acting on the behalf of humanity by "saving" them from evil democracy, or the evil Jews, or the evil Albanians...etc. It's very odd that Voldemort would not only acknowledge he was dark, aka- evil, but demand others refer to him in that way.
And yes, the fire breathing chicken was mine, dammit!
I wrote a fanfic two years ago. In it, I had Charlie teach a Care of Magical Creatures class in place of Hagrid one day. He brought in what he called "hoons" (which is a word one of the original board members used to refer to chickens)...and they breathed fire. So I had fire breathing chickens in my stories before JKR thought of it! It's mine!

Personally, I dont think Harry is going to die at the end of book 7, especially because I read that it was pretty sure that the last sentence of book 7 is Hermione saying : "Harry, what happened to your scar?", which might mean that the scar was the MARK and that after he kills Voldy it just disappears. I just hope that Ron wont die!

I only heard that the last sentance ended with the word scar. I never heard anything about Hermione saying that. I doubt JKR would release somthing that huge to the public, so I'm betting a fan made that up.

JKR has NEVER released the final sentence of the book. The only thing she has ever said was that the last word would be scar...but she was fairly sure she would have to change it as the series progressed.
The last chapter as it stands now...every word except the "scar" word...is probably more protected than the crown jewels. Believe me, that sentence isn't going to be leaking out unless someone breaks into her mansion, overruns her security system, finds the vault that has the outline and guesses the combination or has the keys to the locks on it...all without getting caught. Not likely to say the least.

I dont think that the Scar is the Mark at all. In PS/SS Dumblenut tells Harry at the end that Lily's sacrifice left a mark, Harry goes to touch his scar and Dumblenut explains that it wasnt a scar, not a physical mark at all... so its basically laying the foundation that a mark does NOT have to be physical!
The scar came from the Avada Kedavra curse which only backfired because of Lily's love protection. So in my mind the mark has to be something else.

I think they're both going to die. Or maybe, Harry will be the only one left of the order. I don't really know. I just can't wait for the sixth book!

I think that Harry will have to really believe that life is better than death in order to defeat Voldemort. Because of the pain Voldemort can inflict on Harry through the scar, Harry is really going to have to fight to stay focused and to stay strong enough to win. In the Ministry, when Voldemort appeared, Harry was ready to give up at one point. That can't happen if he's going to beat Voldemort. If the attraction of joining his parents and Sirius is too great or too enticing, he may be inclined to give up too soon. He can always die, but he only has one shot at life.

Well, I think that Harry is going to have to think life is better to get the motivation to kill Voldemort...but I think he has to realize that maybe life is worse than death when it comes to Voldemort. I think he's going to have to see what Dumbledore meant by saying somethings are worse than death in order to fully understand his powers.

I think Harry might Sacrifice himself to kill Voldy.
It could very well come down to Harry having to choose between saving the wizarding world, or saving himself... (its all about the choices) and Harry being the Hero that he is, I know which way he'll go.

I know this goes back a little way- but we won't be seeing Sirius anytime soon, Samatha. Unless Bellatrix stole Voldemort's wand for the fight. I think that Dumbledore's statement to Voldemort that there were some things worse than death and his failure to realize that was his greatest downfall kind of sealed the deal in my mind. Harry is morally upright and doesn't have it in him to kill. What I think is going to happen is that Voldemort will kill Harry in the end, but that power Harry has that Voldemort cannot touch, willbe released and incapacitate Voldemort to a state worse than death- like make him powerless or fill him with Harry;s power so that he has to suffer the remorse of every action he did after he gets some type of soul back.

That's a very "Buffy Style" theory Marisol! but I like it. As I've said before IMO the death of either or both Harry and Voldy will come down to the connection that they have from that scar!

I finished another reading of OotP today durin an 8 hour car ride (groan) and there was one line during Harry & Dumbledore's talk that stood out to me. Dumbledore said something about... emotion being Harry's greatest strength. Anyone have their book nearby and want to find it? My book was taken from me by my gramma who is also obsessed with HP and has still not read OotP (cause she's too cheap to buy the book for herself lol).
Anyway, the line about emotion being Harry's greatest strength seems like it may be able to be his defense against Voldemort when the time comes.

Dumbledore ruled out the possibility of Neville being the person in the prophecy, and he also made clear the the prophecy meant that...
"so does that meant that... that one of us has got to kill the other one... in the end?"
"Yes," siad Dubledore.
But then again, that's not to say this is just as per his knowledge so far, and it could be wrong. Just reiterating what the book says.
Regarding Harry's emotional strength, im not sure if this was the quote you're after but here's the closest thing i found to it...
Chptr 'The Lost Prophecy' pg 743 down the bottom...
"There is a room in the Department of Mysteries," interrupted Dumbledore, "that is kept locked at all times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more terrible than death, than human intelligence, than the forces of nature. It is also, perhaps, the most mysterious of the many subjects for study that reside there. It is the power held within that room that you possess in such quantities and which Voldemort has not at all. That power took you to save Sirius tonight. That power also saved you from posession by Voldemort, because he could not bear to reside in a body so full of the force he detests. In the end, it mattered not that you could not close your mind. It was your heart that saved you."
hope that helps!

I think the one I was specifically looking for was at the end where Dumbledore/Harry have their talk... and Harry is ilke blahblah you don't know how it feels... and Dumbledore says something like "the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength."
But I don't remember what my point was anymore.
