Okay, I want to know what you all think. The Advice to Newcomers thread has been kept on the first page of the board pretty much continuously since sometime in May, I think. By now, I think it is safe to say that we are past the major influx of newcomers brought by the release of book 5. Do we still need to keep this thread active or can it just be revieved periodically?
Those of you who have joined us in the last 5 or 6 months, did you read the darn thing? Did it make any difference to you?
I don't want to clutter up board space with a thread that we don't need. Lemme know what y'all think.
I never read it :X but I posted here mid 2002 so I knew how the board worked and what pissed most of you off lol.
I actually think it should be kept on the last maybe 2 pages at all times cause if people do come it's nice if they read it...

Maybe you should BUMP it up when someone new comes that way it's right there and they can't miss it.
Yes I did read the advice post it. It helped me learn what was expected on here and it made me sure that this wasn't a place of pure choas. Thoses usally don't have order much less rules.

I made a post or two, and then read it. To be honest, it just seemed like common sense to me, but then again some of the newbies we get lack that...
I agree with whoever said just bump it up when we get a newbie, although that would be a pain to have to find it, so maybe we should just continue with keeping it on the first page. Ok, this post doesn't help at all, ignore me.

That would be me. We don't have to find it all someone has to do is put it in their favorite list then go there and BUMP it up whenever someone new comes along simple and it works.

I've been here forever and I read it anyway. I think it's good advice and we should keep it on the first page. Or, we could ask Dakota to put a link to the advice at the top of the page if it's possible. I think that was suggested before, but I guess Dakota doesn't like to be bothered by us. (All hail the Great and Mysterious DAKOTA!!! lol!) anyway, yeah, I think we should just keep doing what we're doing; it seems to be working well.

well there r still new people comming. i think they have a right 2 the advice just as much as the people who came in the rush since the release of book 5. i think it should be made into some sort of link on the top of the page or something, though.

The problem with the link idea, for one even if we did it, not everybody reads the top part when they are new. They just jump right in to the posts.

I've never read it. I assumed that if I hadn't figured out the rules by now, I wasn't going to. Still, if we ever get a newbie, it would be useful to bring up.

I didn't read it till about 2 weeks after I joined. I just KNEW to be polite and to not be mean to anybody. (Unless they deserve it!) I say keep it up in case some people need a REMINDER about the rules or a newbie pops along. Oh, and would I be classed as a newbie still. I know its not for how long you stay but it's about your attitude. Have I been polite or just plain rude? I'm just curious...

Hello everyone! In case you havent noticed (and I wouldnt be surprised if you havent) I havent been on the board for a few days because I've been very busy lately.
Anyway, I agree that it should be bumped up when we see a newbie has come to the board, otherwise it's kind of pointless to keep it on the first page if there's no newbie to see it.
I did read it when I came, and i think it could be useful to people who are new to this board, mainly to make them understand how they should behave (although some ppl were still downright rude)

Just a question: what did we decide? Right now the "Advice to Newcomers" is at the end of the page... should we bump it up and keep it on the first page as always or will we bump it up when a newbie comes?

Okay, so unless there are any strenuous objections, here's what I propose we do...
For now, let's keep it somewhere on the first page. I'll ask Dakota about a link. If we can get a link, we can just bring it to the first page occasionally (for those who don't click the link). Okay?

We don't need the link all we need is for someone (I can do it) to put that page in their favorite lists then when a newbie comes the person goes to their favorite lists and clicks on it and BUMP it up. If it gets to big the mods erase it simple.

I'm a freshly revived regular, and know exactly how this forum works, but I took time to at least skim through that thread anyway. There are a lot of annoyances mentioned there for what not to do. Those "is anyone here?" threads used to drive me up a wall!!! (among other things). I say keep it on the first page for all newbies to see.

Well, until we hear otherwise from Dakota, I guess we will keep it on page 1. Raphael, the problem with posting it only when we have a new person is that we can't know to put it up until after they have started posting. By then, it seems a bit behindhand. A link would give them the chance to read as soon as they arrive. Putting it up on page one at intervals will catch many who don't click the link.
Most of the regulars bump up that post to keep it on the first page... I think its a great idea to keep it on the first page, at least then when an annoybie does come about they cant say that they never read any rules because they werent there!!!
