I have an idea to discuss. If enough people are interested and want to try it, and the moderators think it is feasible, I will organize it and make the necesary posts.
I purchased a book yesterday called "The Ultimate Unoffical Guide To The Mysteries Of Harry Potter". Many of you may have read this book as it has been out for a while. I, as a newbie, had not seen this book (or similar books) before. I got it because I wanted to see if there were any interesting theories or ideas in it, that had not been discussed here. As you might guess, we HAVE discussed many of the theories in the book, and de-bunked several of them.
I think a list of theories that THIS board has developed would be equally good and probably better than the ones in the book I mentioned. I got to thinking that it might be fun to set up a list of theories we (as a board) like. I was thinking we could then each weigh in on each theory, giving it a percent probability of happening. We could store the results in one post, that we don't respond to, but could refer to, as time goes on. We could then add theories and rate them as new ones come along. I think it would be interesting to see how they come out in the end.
So for example, if there was a theory that said Harry will die in book 7, we would list out the reasons this might happen, and then each of us would say what we think the probability is that it WILL happen. I might say the chances are 20% and Helen might say the chances are 75% (as an example). We'd get a whole list of theories and do the same thing with each one. Then compile the information and put it all on one "Theories" post.
As I said, if people are interested, I would be happy to make this happen, complie the info etc... I would need the help of the moderators to keep bumbing the final "Theories" post to the first page, and no one should respond to the "final" list so there might be some clean up needed from time to time.
Please let me know what you all think. If you like the idea, I'll tell you how I think we could proceed.

I think this would be a good idea, but I also think it'll be hard work going back to find all the major theories.
Then again, if you think you can manage it, why not?

Sounds like a good idea but you'll need alot of time. But if you have the time to do it I see nothing wrong with it. And I'll help if you want I have nothing else to do today.

That's a good idea. Funny, because I don't think that Justin's theories would fit in a post.. J/k
That is a good idea, but I don't think you need the mod's help to help bump up posts, we could just bump them up like we do in the "Advice to Newcomers" post.
May take time as the others had said, but it would be cool to see all of the theories that the board has compiled and see if they're right when Book 6 comes out.

Well, I thought I could do it in managable bites. I thought I'd start with some of the more major but simpler theories and work into the more complex ones.
I think that I'll keep the data off line until I have enough to present as a "final" post.
I also thought I'd number the theories so as to make the rating process simpler.
It might be a good opportunity for poeple to re-think some of the older theories and to provide additional proofs. I hope poeple will help me remember any that I don't remember.
I'll try, with each one, to summarize the points so that they don't get TOO long.

It's a great idea, and certainly a needed addition to our board since the web page isn't being maintained. You will really have your work cut out for you though. And that's just in creating it. Then it will need to be kept on the first page and have a way for people (newbies and oldbies alike) to comment on each theory.

Well, I think the worst case scenario is that I muck up the posting process, or I need to add information after the "final" post is made. In any event, I'll still have the data and can reconstruct it if need be. I'm a little digitally challenged so I expect to need coaching. Please give your suggestions.
