What's everyone's opinion on Hermione's birthdate. She was born on September 12th. Apparently in British schools you have to be the right age before the 1st of September to get in to that particular grade. In which case she would have to have been born in 1979. But then she would be almost a year older than alot of people in her year. Possibly hogwarts doesn't follow those guidelines, and she could have been born in 1980.

Karen: Fine, but you have to tell the rest of the staff you're getting hormone operations to turn into a man... Or a woman. Whichever is more beleivable.

Interesting thought, Im debating the importance of this question...it would give Hermy a years advantage which might explain why she is so well at everything.

Well schools starts at the same time in Hogwarts, so I don't see why it should be different.

Plus, muggle-borns that are on the boundries would not have to leave school at the end of Year 5 or have to skip school for a year and going to Hogwarts then.

So Hermione might be the oldest in the year, about 8-9 months older than Harry.

But she's been studying magic for the same length of time - so I don't see why it should be an advatage other than her being older by a bit.

Might as well face it

I think she was actualy born a little after the other kids in her year, because in POA when Harry and Hermione are in the hospital wing Dumbledore calls them "a pair of 13 year olds". If Hermione was born in 1979 it would have been "a 13 nd 14 year old" Dumbledore might have just gotten there ages wrong though.

I dont see what difference it would make if she was born in 1979 or in 1980. I mean, she starts studying magic along with the ones born in 1980, so she's not really ahead of them because of her age.
