Hey, everyone! Thought I would share with you the names we choose for baby on the way!! Girl's name is Francessca Elizabeth, and the boy's name is Jack William (which was our boy's name the first time, but we had a girl.)It is to soon to tell what the sex is (we plan to find out just like last time.)
I am having another very healthy pregnancy so far, and even better I don't feel sick all day this time around!
No strange cravng either! Lol. When I was pregnant with Olivia I wanted to eat BBQ all the time, which is weird because I hate BBQ.

Excellent! Good luck on that, the name Francesca is very pretty - I have a cousin with that name, but everyone tries to shorten it with 'Cisca.

I'm not a fan of Jack, but I love the girl's name.

I decided if I ever had kids, I could only name the girls. My choices would be Ananke, Keres, Hecate, Lykoi, or Jade. Boys I'd be harder with...but I hate common names, so if I was married and the guy suggested Michael, I'd have to beat him.

Well, I decided on the bookstore which I am very happy about, they are very flexible with my availability, even though it is just seasonal.

I am about 12 weeks along now, feeling pretty good too! Won't be able to tell if it is a boy or girl till about 21-23 weeks. But, I'd bet my bank account it is another girl!

Helen, I am exactly the opposite with boy names I prefer good old fashion strong names. In fact, my biggest pet peeve is people who name their kids weird things. I was out to lunch with my daughter and I heard a lady call her kids Journey and Treasure, I felt like smacking her! LOl, those are about THE dumbest names I have ever heard. I don't know, just a strange thing that has always bothered me. Besides, anymore names like Michael are the uncommon names, with everyone wanting to name their kids something unique. Nothing wrong with having a unique name, just not weird!

Well, Journey and Treasure are stupid names simply because they took ordinary names that aren't used for humans and bestowed it on their kids. The names I chose ARE real names...it's just that their not Western. Ananke and Keres are Mesopotamian...I think. Hecate is Greek. Lykoi is Latin and Jade...well, that actually is kind of a Western name, just not used very often.

So I'd say my pet peeve is ordinary westernized English names. Do you know how odd Jack would seem as a name in the Middle East or Africa? So what's so bad about me taking their point of view and using their names instead of western ones?

Isn't Hecate something to do with Satan?

I hate people who give their kids the same name as their surname or their parents.

I know this lad called Clive who's Dad and Granddad are called Clive.

And a lad called Richard Richardson. And Neville Neville.

I'm not bothered about unusal names, it's stupid names that annoy me. Like Lane (this girl in my primary school).

If I have a kid, I'll just wait 10 years and ask him what he wants to be called.

What the hell? Hecate has NOTHING to do with Satan...it predates any Christian concept. It has to do with witchcraft in the traditional paganistic form, but that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Christian concept and construction of evil AT ALL.

Kitch --your letting your kids pick their own names reminds me of my little sister. Her name is Alissa (which is a name I like), but when she was 10, she decided that she wasn't going to be Alissa anymore - she wanted to be called Elizabeth. If anyone called her Alissa, she wouldn't even acknowledge them. The rest of the family would have to tell the person that her name is now Elizabeth. This lasted a full year! She was so stubborn about it to. If my mom left a note saying Alissa - do the dishes, they wouldn't get done because there was no Alissa in our house. But if the note said for Elizabeth to do it, they would get done.

Helen, you missunderstand me. I didn't think anything wrong with with the names you like, I could tell by the way they sound (if i was pronouncing them correctly) that they were ethnic, cultural, whatever they would be considered from a western point of view. What I meant was names like the ones I mentioned, Journey and Treasure. But, I also agree that using surnames as given names is annoying too! I hope this dosen't start a board arugment! I just wanted to share the names we chose for our baby!!! LOL. Although, my husband is still pushing for Gwendolyn (he likes Gwen Stephani!)He did this the last time around too. Just when we thougnht we were settled on a name he keeps coming up with more. I still stand by the old fashioned names I prefer (for boys, anyway) When it comes down to it though it is all a matter of opinion and what a person names ther child is their business. Something my father-in-law just dosen't get!!!

I like uncommon names, so I think those names are pretty cool Helen, I don't know if I would name my kids anyof them, but I like them. I like names that are really pretty and kind of flowing, like a name that you might find in a fantasy book  in a different world, does that make sense to anyone? I also like them to have short nicknames though. Like the name Alexandria, and then Lexi for short, although that isn't that uncommon, but yeah.

I think if you use common names, your kids like you when they're growing up and resent you when they're older. Mari (my sister who comes here occassionally) HATED her name growing up because there were no other Mari's. Now she loves it. I didn't care about my name growing up (Teresa), but now I HATE it because there are about 12 people named Teresa in my law class out of a class with 35 females in it. The only thing that saved me was that all the other Teresa's (and Theresa's) changed their name and preferred to be called something else.

So if I named a girl Ananke, she probably wouldn't like it until she was a teenager...but then she'd be grateful, so yay.

I have a common name and never hated it (christine.) What I did hate was when people called me Christina or Christie. Now, there is nothing wrong with those names, but Christina is not my name and I never went by Christie as a nickname. I never had anyone at school with the same name, even in high school where my graduating class was 326. Although my and my sister and I did get harrassed because both our names were Stephen King books. Carrie and Christine!! No, my parents didn't do that on purpose.

Oh yeah, Helen, I was jsut at the mall this afternoon and while Olivia was in the little play area, I heard two different Mom's call for their daughter's named Jade!! How is that for coincidence??!

Funny if, in twenty thirty years, all the kids had unusual names and noone was called 'Adam', or 'Michael' or 'Stephen' etc.

My name's Jordyn, which might not sound lika a very common name, but belive me, it is. There are two in my grade alone, and there probably are a couple others in the other grades. Also, there are about a 20 kids namend Jordan in about every preschool class on the planet. The only good thing is that my name's spelled with a Y, and mostly you see it spelled with an A. Of course, that means that everybody spells my name wrong, but hey, what can you do?

I like Gwendolyn best, it's pretty. I know one person named Jade and I hate names that are stupid like that one America person. Stupid name and she's Mexican(actress). My brothers first name is Dalton and we are related to the Daltons(like the Dalton gang). But it would be stupid if his name was Dalton Dalton. Then I would just call him Dalton, that would just be his name or Dalton Mark if you use his middle name. I HATE my name being so common I always have, always, I've always liked being different. I even told someone my name was Seiarra instead of Sara.

If I had kids I would name them uncommon names too. For a girl I would want Lyra first of all(yes it is from a book). And I would have to have a boy named Will it's not really unique, it's just so old, so timeless. I love it. I also kind of want a boy named Asriel, but I imagin he'd get beat up alot. I had some other girl names but I forgot most of them, opps!

I had a name for a girl I liked but I can't remember the whole thing. I like Emma Lilly for a girl. I'm not big on the backgrounds of names so I'll go on a limb and call them Western names. Not the most comon names, but I like them. I don't mind comon names, but I wouldn't go and name my child something extremely comon (like say Christopher lol, I mean we already have 3 of them here in this damned board alone) because I would be sick of talking to my child after a while. I also like Alexandria for a girl (Alex or Lexi for short I guess). For a guy I like Alexander (Alex for short obviously) and Cody, but I'm not so sure I would put the two together for a name. I also like the very uncomon names that are not Western, like names that Helen picked out, but I'm not sure if I would name my child a name like that. They may eventually like the name, like Helen said, but if the other people the childs age considered the name weird it would give them one more thing to make fun of the kid for. Now, if the name had a reason behind it besides for a name, sure go ahead and give the kid the name wheather you like it or not.

I was just looking over my post here, it would be weird to have a boy named Alexander and a girl named Alexandria be siblins, don't you think?

It would be confusing if they both went by 'Alex'.

I know two twins, Christopher and Christina. Luckily, she calls herself either Rista or Tina.

Rista was because when they were little, Chris couldn't pronounce Christina so he called her Rista, in case anyone wondered.

I'm a Chistina (duh) and I HATE it when people call me Christine or Christy- I've never gone by either, so I know what you mean.

As for unique names, I was tutoring some inner city kids when I was in undergrad... I helped one girl with her homework, and I had to remind to her put her name. Honest to whichever diety you chose to beleive in (or no diety at all) this girls name was Imunique. I asked her to pronounce it and she looked at me like I had 3 heads, then says in a strong southern accent 'it's I'm-yoo-neek- can't you read?' I almost died trying not to laugh- now that's a creative mother.

I also used to work with a guy called Jack Daniel Hammer. That was pretty funny...

I love uncommon English names, especially for girls. But not so uncommon that they sound weird. I would never name my kid a totally common name like Jón, Sigrún or Guđmundur. (I'm from Iceland, remember? And these names are so common here that they each use up 10 pages of the phone book.)
I love the name Leon and when I have a boy, I want to name him that even though it's not an Icelandic name.
In Iceland there is a tradition to name your first son after the father's father and the second son after the mother's father. I have a crush on a guy whose father's name is Holberg, so our son would be called Holberg Leon. Ouch! He'd definitely be bullied!
