Long time no talk fellow message-borders. I've been really busy with school and what not. So here is my question about the Maurderer's map.... Pardon me if its been brought up before.... When Lupin has the map and sees that Sirus and Wormtail along with ron harry and hermione are there wouldn't he have also seen Harry and Hermione as their future selves on the grounds?

"Yesterday, the publisher of the latest 'Harry Potter' book sued the New York Daily News because they gave away secrets to the book before it officially went on sale. The publishers are worried because now they may only sell three billion copies."

Ooh, good poin, I've never thought of that before. Maybe he was so concerned about seeing wormtail he didn't notice, or maybe the map can only show one 'self' of a person at a time.

I go for the 'can only show one self' version.

If there were a thousand dots in the castle and then only a few a short while off, he'd notice the extra two.

Plus, he'd probably have looked for other dots to properly diagnose the situation before he acted.

that map must be huge! I mean so many dots, the grounds arent exactly small either I wonder how harry manages to put it in his pocket!

and I think you've just brought up another flaw in the introduction of the time turner! It was a bad bad decision on JKR's part!

Yep, the map and the time-turner were wonderful story lines, but only if the story ended there. Unfortunately, there are just too many things that either could do to change the outcome of each book.

My big question about the map has always been wormtail. Why didn't Harry see Peter or Wormtail on it? Why didn't he show up in the cabin with Hagrid when he was hiding in the pitcher?

Too many problems can be created when you create things like that.

oops, bald guy ran away again.... had to go get him.

Hey! It's kind of like how the people in the pictures just get up and leave when they want.... very HP.

lol, Dad-Eye!

I never thought of that before, about the map not picking up on Peter until Lupin saw it. At first, I thought that maybe it was becuase Peter was still just a rat when he turned up missing and before that and stuff but then I realized that he was still a rat when Lupin was looking at the map too. Maybe Lupin knew him for what he really was, and that's why the map picked up on Peter for him but not Harry? Maybe the map only shows people who you know and not people who you don't? Or maybe it only shows the specific people that you are looking for and not the others. I mean afterall, Lupin already knew that Peter was at Hogwarts (he saw in him the newpaper picture with Ron).

As for the time turner, I am still stumped on that one. There are so many things that it could be used for. Solving crimes, saving lives, etc. But, aren't they illeagal to use for some reason becaue it might alter time and ruin things? (I remember that from somewhere but I don't know where).

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the map probably didn't pick up on the time travle Harry and Hermione because Lupin didn't know that they did that, and so the map did not pick up on it for him??? hmmmm.....

There is a problem with almost any of the magical items if you explore them hard enough.  If JKR explained them too throughly, it would take away from the magic.  It's hard not to ask the questions because the books are a complex mystery.

Its kind of amusing when you think about it. We are having an experience that people in the future (after the publication of the seventh book) will never have.  In the future, one could just read all the books, all the way through.  We get to have the additional entertainment of speculating about the future books as we await their publication.
